Pavlyuchenkova Hoping to Turn Form Around

She is ranked 45th in the world but Pavlyuchenkova’s form hasn’t been as good as it has been even in the recent past. And while she has made it to the second round with a straight-set win over Cagla Buyukakcay, Pavlyuchenkova faced her own issues in the encounter.

The Russian had gone into the match with odds of 1/12 pushing her for a win, and she broke her Turkish opponent twice to race to a 5-2 lead. Unfortunately for her, she lost her serve once, while serving for the set, before finally pocketing the set off her fourth set-point.

The second set was a cagier affair with Pavlyuchenkova frittering away three break-points in the fifth game before getting that decisive break. Buyukakcay held on for the rest of the set but never came close to breaking her opponent, with match finishing off at 6-4, 6-4.

Pavlyuchenkova had entered this tournament with a 4-6 win-loss record and that’s something she would like to improve quickly.

Gasanova Improving Her Ranking

Gasanova is currently ranked 241st in the world, with a career-best of 228th and that is something she would love to improve upon. The manner in which she has started this season, the chances of her breaking into the top 200 very soon look high.

Because other than the five ITF tournaments she has participated in, in 2021, Gasanova is also playing her second WTA tournament and for someone ranked that low, she has done well so far.

Her first WTA competition appearance came in Abu Dhabi where she qualified for the event by winning two matches in a row before defeating Mona Barthel and shocking Karolina Pliskova en route the third round. Gasanova lost to Sara Sorribes Tormo in the third.

Here, again, she has been a qualifier who defeated Katarina Zavatska in her opener, having gone in as a favourite too. The match went the distance, one of the rare ones across all the tournaments happening this week to have touched the three-hour mark and Gasanova came through 6-2, 6-7 (6), 7-5.

Can Gasanova add another upset to her list?

Pavlyuchenkova v Gasanova Prediction and Tip

While Gasanova is 9/2 to win this, we think she has the potential to take on her opponent, push her and take advantage if Pavlyuchenkova messes up. Looking at the games handicap market here.
