Kasatkina Takes the Long Route Past Sasnovich

Kasatkina required to overcome the in-form Clara Tauson in her first round match but she did that in straight sets. Against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, however, things got a little more circuitous.

In the end, Kasatkina made it to the quarterfinal but not before she had needed two hours and 50 minutes and three sets to get past Sasnovich.

The Russian was broken thrice in the first set but it was the third break that proved to be decisive when she fell in the 12th game of the set, conceding the set off the fifth set-point.

Kasatkina retaliated the loss of the first set with two breaks of serve and while Sasnovich kept breaking back, the bugger of an extra break proved to be most important.

The pair exchanged a pair of breaks in the first four games of the final set, and then again by the time the scoreline was 4-4. Sasnovich squandered a chance to serve out for the match before losing the encounter in a tie-breaker.

Kudermetova Edges Out Teenager

In-form Kudermetova needed to dig deep into her reserves to get past fellow Russian and 19-year-old Kamilla Rakhimova in her second round match, getting past her opponent in a final set tie-breaker.

Kudermetova came through 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (5) in a match that lasted nearly three hours, and one that saw both players get themselves five breaks of serves in the encounter.

This included an early break in the third set for Kudermetova to help her take a 2-0 lead only for it to slip away in the very next game. The world number 36 had another chance to break in the fourth game but it didn’t quite work out and that took the set into a tie-breaker.

While Kudermetova fell 0-2 behind, they were back on serve at 3-3 and Rakhimova then went 5-4 up. The higher-ranked Russian roared back at this point to register two successive mini-breaks and then served out the match to clinch her quarterfinal berth.

This result comes on the back of a first round bye for Kudermetova and a string of poor results since her third round appearance at the Australian Open.

Kasatkina v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina is a favourite despite being ranked lower than her fellow Russian, starting out at 4/6 to win this. Kudermetova has already come out of a three-setter and she can be expected to give Kasatkina a fight.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
