Alexander Zverev v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head

This is one of the most lopsided matchups in tennis. Tsitsipas has an astounding 5-1 lead in head-to-head, winning their last three matches without dropping a set.

Zverev’s sole win came in their first meeting at the 2018 Citi Open semifinals.

Zverev One Win Away From First Acapulco Title

Friday evening in Acapulco was a day of drama and bedlam. Alexander Zverev’s battling straight sets victory over countryman Dominik Koepfer was slightly overshadowed by a different eventful outcome.

A reported 5.7 magnitude earthquake shook the state of Guerrero. For remote viewers, the titling cameras were noticeable, and lights were shaking. The crowd in the stadium felt it more than the players, according to Zverev who won the ‘earthquake point’ in the opening game of the second set.

Koepfer was aimlessly walking at the end of the point, and a penchant Zverev paused for moment and smiled, unsure of what happened. Both players laughed it off and resumed play. It was an extraordinary moment.

But far from it, this was Alexander Zverev producing a gutsy performance under the lights to reach his first final of the season. The 23-year-old has one of the fastest racket head speeds in the game. But in Koepfer – who had already tamed a big serving opponent in Milos Raonic –  he met a player with guile and the ability to frustrate.

Zverev though was the player who showed less nerves in this semifinal. Koepfer was in unusual surroundings, and he was broken twice early on. By the time he settled, Zverev had already wrapped up the set 6-4.

After the earthquake scare, Koefer got his bearings right. He raced to a 3-1 lead, but was under constant pressure to consolidate the break. Zverev eventually levelled at 5-4 when his countryman failed to serve out the set. It was a difficult pill to swallow for the unseeded 26-year-old who went on to lose the set and match in a tiebreak.

Tsitsipas Ends Musetti’s Fairytale Run

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ 14th match win of the season earned him a finals spot on his debut appearance at the Mexican Open. The Greek, whose three-peat bid in Marseille came to an end in the quarterfinals last week, has been in rich vein form.

Tsitsipas made back-to-back semifinals this term: at the Australian Open and Rotterdam, but each time came up short against the indomitable Russian pair of Medvedev and Rublev.

But the 22-year-old will have a shot to grab his seventh ATP tour title against an opponent he has beaten five times in a row.

Tsitsipas’ path to the final was breezy, with just the one speed bump in the quarters. Having taken Benoit Paire and John Isner to the woodshed, the young Greek overcame brave resistance from Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime. It was the only match in which Tsitsipas’ serve was broken during the week.

The top seed proceeded to dismiss the surprise package of this year’s Mexican Open – Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian teenager had been on a tear this week, but his best tennis deserted him.

Musetti appeared to be struggling with an abdominal issue. He received on court treatment after dropping the first set 6-1. Although there was a marginal improvement in his game, he only won three games after that, as he failed to keep up with Tsitsipas’ forehand.

The man from Athens was lethal from the forehand wing, striking 17 out of 23 winners. He also won 80% of first serve points (22 of 26).

Zverev v Tsitsipas Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas has a dominant record in the series, which should put him in very good space. If Zverev can keep his serving yips in check, he could make a match out of this. But we are backing the Greek to pick up his first title of the season.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win: 8/11 (bet365)
