Jiri Vesely v Laslo Djere Head to Head

The pair have played once before on clay, last year at the Sardinia Open, with Djere winning in straight sets.

Vesely Searching for His Best Form in 2021

Vesely’s run to the third round in Miami equalled his best ever result in a Masters’ event, but he missed the tournament the last time it was played two years ago.

The Czech’s best performance in 2021 came in the Murray River Open Melbourne warm-up event, where he got to the semi-finals before losing to the Canadian Felix Augur-Aliassime.

At the Australian Open, he came from behind in his first-round match to beat the Belgian Kimmer Coppejans in five sets, but then went out to the Spaniard Pablo Carreno-Busta.

he then returned to Europe where he got to the second round in Montpellier, before losing to the German Peter Gojowcyyk.

He has not played since though.

Djere’s First Time in Miami

Djere, despite having been on tour for a number of years, has never competed in Miami before. However, as a form guide to his performances in Masters’ events, his best results have come on clay, which is his preferred surface.

That means also that he has not played on hard courts much since the Australian Open, where he had the misfortune to be drawn against Rafael Nadal in the first round, going down to an almost inevitable straight sets defeat.

Since then the Serb has spent most of his time kin the South American clay court swing.

His best result came in Buenos Aires, where he got to the quarter-finals, only to be beaten by his compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic.

Djere did try and get some practice in for Miami by entering Acapulco last week, but his progress was halted in the second-round by the eventual winner, Alexander Zverev, losing to the German in straight sets.

Vesely v Djere Prediction and Tip

Although Djere is the higher ranked player, and won their previous meeting, that was on his preferred surface of clay. The surface and conditions in Miami are likely to be more to the liking of the Czech.

Tip: Vesely to win in straight sets: 6/4 (bet365)
