Kristyna Pliskova v Katie Boulter Head to Head

Pliskova and Boulter have never played each other before this.

Pliskova Without a Main Draw Win

The last time Kristyna Pliskova won a singles main draw match was back at the French Open where she reached the second round before losing to Garbine Muguruza. She had also done well in Prague just prior to that and made round two in Palermo but other than that her only performance of note in 2020 had come at the beginning of the season in Shenzhen.

Since making it as far as the semifinal in Shenzhen last year, Pliskova has won a total of six main draw encounters leading up to this date. Yep, that’s six matches won in about 15 months of tennis.

And she enters this tournament hoping to win her first match for the season.

Because so far this year, Pliskova has lost in the opening round of four successive tournaments, which includes defeats to Vera Zvonareva, Heather Watson, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and very lately Tereza Martincova in the WTA Dubai.

She now takes on a player ranked more than 200 places behind her in her opener here in Miami which makes it slightly easier for her but does she enter the match with the confidence to shrug off her previous results?

Boulter Started Well But…

Having warmed up to this season with appearances in tournaments organised by the LTA, like the Battle of the Brits and the Progress Tour and then featured in three competitions on the ITF circuit, Boulter looked to have begun well.

She first featured in the Gippsland Trophy earlier this season in the lead up to the Australian Open, and won a couple of rounds to get going. Victories over Anna Kalinskaya and Cori Gauff would have helped no end, before she, unsurprisingly, fell to Naomi Osaka in the third.

However, this was followed by a string of defeats. Two of them have come at the hands of Daria Kasatkina, who truth be told, has been in the form of her life having already won a couple of titles this year.

More recently, Boulter was crushed 6-4, 6-0 at the hands of Karolina Schmiedlova in the opening round of the Monterrey Open leading us to this competition where she will be hoping to break the streak.

The good news for Boulter is her opponent is in a similar boat too.

Pliskova v Boulter Prediction and Tip

While Boulter is 11/5 to win this, we think she could do a lot better than those odds suggest, especially against a player who is herself struggling to carve out a win.

Tip: Boulter to win a set – YES: 5/6 (bet365)
