Petra Martic v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Kalinskaya, Looking to Continue her Good Run from Monterrey

Before arriving in Miami, the 22-year-old Kalinskaya delivered one of her best WTA singles performances in the Monterrey Open last week.

Playing as a qualifier, the World No. 115 beat the likes of Nadia Podoroska and Nina Stojanovic in straight sets to reach the quarterfinal. She was ultimately beaten by Viktorija Golubic but that quarterfinal run still translates into a lot of momentum for the young Russian.

It also bodes well for Kalinskaya, considering that up until that tournament, she had lost in the opening rounds of all the events she featured in 2021. It was the case in the WTA Guadalajara and the Gippsland Trophy while in the Australian Open, she never moved past the qualifiers.

That said, Anna did have a breakthrough on the doubles circuit with her partner Viktoria Kuzmova; the duo reached the final and settled for the runner-up trophy in the Yarra Valley Classic doubles.

Kalinskaya has had her moments on the tour, particularly in 2019 when she reached the semifinal in the Citi Open and second round in the US Open after beating the top-10 player Sloane Stephens.

However, like many, the Russian struggles with consistency and form. In Miami, Kalinskaya started her run with a straight-set win over Irina-Camelia Begu in the opener.

Martic, on a Mediocre Run

Petra Martic has had a pretty uneventful season so far and is looking to turn it around in Miami.

With the exception of the Phillip Island Trophy where she reached the quarterfinal, the Croatian, just like her Russian counterpart, has lost mainly in the early rounds.

Her last stint was in Dubai where she fell to Kristina Mladenovic in the first round – a result similar to her opening-round loss in the Australian Open. In the Adelaide International and Yarra Valley Classic, she was beaten in round two.

The 2019 French Open quarterfinalist had a pretty mundane season last year but managed to stay afloat in the top 20. She had a couple of decent runs, mainly reaching the semifinal in Dubai and Palermo, and the fourth round in the US Open. Apart from that, the rest of the tour was more or less spent in futile attempts to reach the latter stages.

In the ongoing Miami Open, Martic has received a bye into the second round.

Martic v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip

Martic has the experience and will be expected to win here. Her form, however, may tell a different tale. Kalinskaya will put up a fight and not go down easy.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 4/5 (bet365)
