Anett Kontaveit v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

Kontaveit leads Cirstea 3-0 in the head to head tally. They last met just a few weeks ago in WTA Dubai, where Kontaveit won 6-4, 7-5.

Kontaveit, Playing with Consistency

Anett Kontaveit started the year with a first-round defeat in WTA Abu Dhabi to Veronika Kudermetova but soon after that, she turned it all around.

In the Grampians Trophy, she reached the final after moving past Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sakkari. However, her final match against Ann Li was cancelled on account of the pandemic.

Thereafter, the 25-year-old Estonian has reached the third round at the very least in every tournament she has played in. Her last event was in Dubai where she fell to Aryna Sabalenka in the third round. Before that, she was in Qatar where she fell to Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinal. Even in the Australian Open, she was beaten in the third round by Shelby Rogers.

Kontaveit had an equally brilliant run (if not, better) on the tour last year too. She was a quarterfinalist in the US Open and WTA Dubai, reached the final in the Palermo Open, and the fourth round in the US Open and Western & Southern Open.

Currently ranked World No. 24, Kontaveit has got a bright future ahead of her and appears to be in terrific form.

Cirstea, Hoping for Some Magic in Miami

This game will be a tricky one for the Romanian as it is, given the outcome of her games against Kontaveit in the past. Throw in the mix her mediocre form in the last few tournaments, the match becomes more difficult for her.

She did start the year well – Cirstea reached the third round in the Grampians Trophy and Australian Open where she picked up wins over the top 10 players like Belinda Bencic and Petra Kvitova.

After that, it’s as if Cirstea shut herself down and moved on to lose early in the Lyon Open (first round to Nina Stojanovic) and WTA Dubai.

Her previous season was more or less along the same lines and her best run came in the US Open where she reached the third round. However, Cirstea did end the year on a winning note by conquering the ITF $100,000 event in Dubai.

In Miami, she defeated Katrina Scott 6-2, 6-2, to reach the second round.

Kontaveit v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

Cirstea may have the experience but she lacks consistency or form – something which Kontaveit has in abundance at the moment.

Expect a good game of tennis where the Estonian should come out on the top in straight sets.

Tip: Kontaveit to win 2-0:  8/11 (bet365)
