Iga Swiatek v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between Swiatek and Konjuh before this.

Swiatek Continues with Her Merry Ways

She has already won a title this season and having played all her matches on hard courts, Swiatek is still 11-3 on win-loss in 2021. And such has been Swiatek’s dominance in the matches she has won, only in one of those 11 she has been taken into a third set and that came in the very first tournament she featured in this year.

That was a record she continued even in the opening round of this tournament, defeating Barbora Krejcikova 6-4, 6-2 to set up a third round meeting with Konjuh. It was her first ever win in Miami, where she had lost in the qualifiers in 2019, with the tournament not held last year.

Swiatek got off to a flier like she often does, racing away to a 5-1 lead in the opening set but then strangely dropped her serve twice. However, with her opponent serving to stay in the set at 4-5, she broke right back again to claim the first set.

In the second set, it was Krejcikova who drew first blood and took a 2-1 lead but Swiatek then hustled past her opponent with five straight games to finish off the encounter in an hour and 15 minutes.

She would expect to do something similar in her third round match as well.

Konjuh Stunner for Keys

One of those times we did call this. Madison Keys had gone into her second round match against Ana Konjuh as a huge 2/5 favourite to win it but the sense we got was Konjuh had the game to trouble the American.

While we had gone for the conservative, Konjuh winning a set option, she went on to do a lot more than that. In what can best be termed as a rout, the 338th-ranked Konjuh crushed the world number 19 Keys 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the third round of the tournament, something she had never done in Miami before this.

Konjuh’s previous best in this competition had come in 2017 when she won a round for the first and only time at the Miami Open.

She had earlier emulated that showing by defeating Katerina Siniakova in the opening round, before reaching the third round in an hour and 14 minutes with five breaks of serve in the entire encounter.

Konjuh was broken twice too, both of which came as a part of four successive breaks of serve in the first set but off the fifth service break there, she won the set and then added two more without a return in the second set to win the match.

Swiatek v Konjuh Prediction and Tip

No surprises who the favourite is for this one, but we do think Konjuh can continue to keep fighting and that’s also why we think a games handicap could be a good option here.

Tip: Games Handicap Konju +5.5: 8/11 (bet365)
