Denis Shapovalov v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

The Canadian has won both their previous meetings, defeating Ivashka in a three-set Round-of-32 contest in Shenzhen in 2018 and in straight sets in the Round of 16 at St. Petersburg last year.

Shapovalov Looking To Build on Dubai Form

2019 Miami Open semifinalist, Denis Shapovalov will begin his 2021 campaign on Saturday. The sixth seed displayed solid form last week, reaching the semifinals in Dubai. He comes to Miami with a 6-5 record this season.

Having ended 2020 with four consecutive losses, the 21-year-old Canadian lost two more at the ATP Cup at the start of the new season to extend his winless streak to six matches.

He finally returned to winning ways at the Australian Open, defeating Italy’s Jannik Sinner in a thrilling five-setter. He added another win in the second round, defeating Bernard Tomic in straight sets, before being outplayed by good friend Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Round of 32.

In Doha, Shapovalov knocked out compatriot Vasek Popisil in the Round of 16 but lost to American Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinal, despite taking the opening set.

The following week, in Dubai, the World No. 11 got into a good rhythm as he brushed aside Jan-Lennard Struff, Hubert Hurkacz and Jeremy Chardy in straight sets to enter the semifinal; but once again squandered a one-set-to-love lead to go down to South Africa’s Lloyd Harris.

A two-time ATP finalist, Shapovalov, who won the ATP 250 in Stockholm in 2019 and lost the final of the Paris Masters the same year, reached the final four in Miami on his second main draw appearance in 2019.

The Canadian’s road to the semis included wins over Andriy Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Frances Tiafoe. He was eventually beaten by Roger Federer, who went on to claim his 28th Masters 100 title after beating John Isner in the final.

Ivashka Battles Past Kwon

Facing Shapovalov in the Round of 64 will be Belarus’ Ilya Ivashka who battled past South Korea’s Soon-woo Kwon in the first round on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Belarusian struck 20 aces to win the three-hour-and-19-minute contest 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3).

The win improved the World No. 116 to 1-1 this year. He had lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Russia’s Roman Safiullin.

The 6’4” right-hander, who achieved a career-high ranking of 80 in 2019, has won seven titles at the Challenger and Futures level.

Ivashka reached the second round of the Miami Open on his tournament debut in 2019. He beat Italy’s Thomas Fabbiano in the first round but lost to Britain’s Kyle Edmund in the Round of 64.

Shapovalov v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

Ivashka has played very little this season and has lost both his previous matches to Shapovalov. Expect the Canadian to keep the perfect record intact with a routine win on Saturday.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 4/11 (bet365)
