Bianca Andreescu v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head

Andreescu Overs Early Martincova Challenge

Slowly but steadily Andreescu is looking to return back to her best form. The kind of form that had seen her lift an Indian Wells Open, Canadian Open and a Grand Slam title in 2019.

It started with a second round exit at the Australian Open but then saw the Canadian make it as far as the semifinal in the tournament that followed, the Phillip Island Trophy where she finally lost to Marie Bouzkova.

And now here, in Miami, a place where she had made it as far as the fourth round in 2019, Andreescu has started off with a fighting but straight-set win over Tereza Martincova in the second round after getting an opening bye.

She won 7-6 (5), 6-2 in a match that lasted an hour and 54 minutes, where she was down a break on two separate occasions in the first set. The second of those resulted in Martincova serving for the set and getting herself two set-points before Andreescu broke back off the third break-point.

In the tie-breaker that followed, it was Martincova who took a 4-2 and then a 5-4 lead but yet again, the Canadian’s fighting qualities came to the fore as she came back from behind to seal the set.

The second set was a lot easier as Andreescu raced off to a 5-0 lead and while she dropped her serve once while serving for the match, Martincova lost her serve yet again to fall to a defeat.

If Andreescu can keep fighting the way she did in her opener here, to go with her solid talent, she could become a difficult force to reckon with very early on her return.

Anisimova Topples off Stephens

It isn’t much of a surprise any more when Sloane Stephens loses but one did expect the second round match between her and Anisimova to be a lot closer than it turned out. After all here were two players out of form – one longer than the other though – and an elusive third round berth in a tournament as prestigious as the Miami Open at stake.

Turned out to be a one-sided match in the end.

Anisimova, who was once 21st in the world before the run of off and on court issues, made it past her previous best at the Miami Open 6-3, 6-3. And it wasn’t as if her game was flawless – far from it – but her opponent made those many more mistakes.

She broke Stephens five times in the encounter while losing her own serve twice to seal her third round place against another player who hasn’t played a lot of tennis in recent times. Anisimova’s lack of recent form, however, could work against her.

Andreescu v Anisimova Prediction and Tip

Interesting to note bet365 is offering 10/11 for both, Andreescu and Anisimova to win this. We are backing the Canadian on this one given she has had more court-time in recent times and has looked in decent rhythm so far.

Tip: Andreescu to win: 10/11 (bet365)
