Dusan Lajovic v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head

They are 1-1 from their previous two matches. Lajovic won 6-3, 6-3 at Indian Wells in 2017, while Tiafoe won 6-3, 7-6 at Antwerp last year.

Lajovic Eases Past Escobedo

World No. 26 Dusan Lajovic of Serbia defeated the United States’ Ernesto Escobedo in the second round on Friday to enter the Round of 32 at the Miami Open for the third time in his career.

The 16th seed Serbian, who received a first-round bye, needed just an hour and 14 minutes to beat the American qualifier 6-2, 6-3.

In what was a dominant performance, the 30-year-old served six aces, won 78.5% of his serves, saved both the break points he faced, while breaking his opponent four times in the match from six opportunities to improve to 6-7 this year.

The 2019 Monte Carlo Masters runner-up, Lajovic, who won the title in Umag the same year, has not had the best of starts to 2021.

Having ended the 2020 season with five successive defeats, the Serb lost both his matches at the ATP Cup, before finally ending the seven-match losing streak at the Australian Open, where he reached the fourth round for the first time in his career, before going down to Alexander Zverev.

His biggest win this season came in the first round in Rotterdam, when he ousted the then World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. Medvedev has since moved to No. 2 ranking in the world.

Gritty Tiafoe Rebounds To Oust 19th Seed

Facing Lajovic in the Round of 32 will be World No. 58 Frances Tiafoe, who for the second time in three days fought back from a set down to advance at the Miami Open.

The 23-year-old, who knocked out Italy’s Stefano Travaglia in the first round on Thursday, had to dig deep once again in the second round on Saturday as he upset the 19th seed Dan Evans 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-3.

Winning 107 of 199 total points in the match, Tiafoe converted four of eight break points and saved three of four to beat Evans in two hours and 51 minutes.

On Thursday, Tiafoe has needed two hours and 15 minutes to beat the Italian 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Saturday’s win improved Tiafoe to 7-6 this year.

A two-time ATP finalist and the winner of the Delray Beach Open in 2018, Tiafoe was a quarterfinalist at Delray Beach earlier this year. He has made just one first round exit this season, at the Murray River Open, winning the first round and losing the second in all the other four tournaments.

Lajovic v Tiafoe Prediction and Tip

Both players have had their moments this season, but both have been inconsistent. Expect this to be a good contest though as both have found some form in Miami. Will be interesting to see if Tiafoe can knock out another seeded player. The match may need a third set to decide the winner.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
