Daniil Medvedev v Roberto Bautista Agut Head to Head

This will be their third meeting and surprise, surprise, Bautista Agut leads Medvedev 2-0. Their first meeting came at the 2017 Chennai Open (now called the Pune Open), where Bautista Agut eased past Medvedev in the final to win the title.

Their more relevant meeting came in 2020, at the Cincinnati Masters where Bautista Agut stunned the Russian after being a set down to enter the semifinal.

Tiafoe No Match for Medvedev

Medvedev had taken his time to make it to the fourth round, having been stretched by Alexei Popyrin, before coming through in three sets but against an in-form Frances Tiafoe, he looked far more comfortable in their pre-quarterfinal encounter.

The match lasted an hour and a half and Tiafoe did try to make a contest out of it but in the end, Medvedev proved to be too good for the American, winning 6-4, 6-3.

The Russian was never tested on his serve in the first set, easing through it, even as Tiafoe first saved a break-point in the fourth game and then failed to do so when he was faced by another in the 10th.

Tiafoe drew first blood in the second set, but lost serve in the very next game for things to be levelled at 2-2. Medvedev then had to save two more break-points in the seventh game before breaking his opponent in the very next one to soon wrap up the encounter.

The world number two now enters his quarterfinal match on the back of a seven-match winning streak and with a hope to avenge his previous defeats at the hands of his Spanish opponent.

Bautista Agut Squeaks Past Isner

In one of the closest matches of this tournament, Bautista Agut needed three sets and a tie-breaker in the final set to get past John Isner and seal his quarterfinal berth for the second successive season at the Miami Masters.

Bautista Agut helped himself to two breaks of serve in the first set, and then nearly suffered a similar fate in the second set before Isner served it out at 5-4 to level the encounter.

In the third, with Isner having discovered his serving mojo, gave Bautista Agut no chances, but what would probably disappoint him the most is his inability to break his opponent despite getting two opportunities in the third game.

With no other chances for either player, the set went into a tie-breaker, where Bautista Agut came back from 0-3 down and overcame a match-point at 5-6 down to complete a win off his second match-point.

This win comes on the heels of another three-setter for Bautista Agut in his third round match against Jan-Lennard Struff after having gotten himself a second round walkover from Lloyd Harris.

Medvedev v Bautista Agut Prediction and Tip

Despite the 2-0 head to head record in favour of Bautista Agut, Medvedev starts off an obvious 2/9 to win this one. We think Medvedev has moved into immovable territories in this competition and it’s tough to see him lose this one. The question is if he can finish off the job in straight sets.

Tip: Medvedev to win: 2/9 (bet365)
