Bedene Reached Second Round in Miami

Bedene is back in Europe after competing in the Miami Open where he got to the second round before losing to the Kei Nishikori of Japan. It was the second time in a matter of weeks that he had been beaten by the Japanese, who had defeated him at the third round stage in Dubai.

That run in the Middle East equalled his previous best performance of the year which came in the Melbourne warm-up event, the Great Ocean Roads Classic.

The last time he set foot on a clay court competitively was in the French Open last October, when he was forced to retire from his third round match with Stefanos Tsitsipas, with the Greek leading by two sets and a break at the time.

Prior to that his only other match on clay saw him fail to qualify for the Rome Open.

It is definitely not his favourite surface.

Teenager Zeppieri Enters as a Wildcard

Zeppieri has fond memories of Sardinia, because it was here that he made his senior ATP debut last October, when he was given a wildcards to that event as well. He was beaten in straight sets by compatriot Lorenzo Sonego.

Since then, he has resumed his career on the Challenger circuit, but he has not been in the best of form recently. From the end of September through to early March, he failed to win a single match.

He stopped the rot in Gran Canaria, where he qualified and then reached the third round, but things reverted to type in Biella where he was beaten in the first round by the experienced German peter Gojowczyk

The last event he played in was in Lille, France where he got to the second round only to lose to the Czech Jonas Forejtek.

Unlike Bedene, he was brought up on clay courts.

Bedene v Zeppieri Prediction and Tip

Although clay is not Bedene’s favourite surface, he is playing a man competing in only his second senior ATP event, and somebody yet to win a match at this level. Zeppieri has not been in good form recently, so it will be a major surprise if the result is anything than a comfortable win for the Slovenian.

Tip: Bedene to win: 1/3 (bet365)
