Lorenzo Musetti v Dennis Novak Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the World No. 94 Musetti and World No. 100 Novak.

Musetti Looking To Cary Last Month’s Form to Clay

Lorenzo Musetti has had a brilliant couple of weeks.

First he reached the semifinals of the ATP 500 in Acapulco and then won the first two rounds to enter the Round of 32 at the Miami Open, his second third round appearance at an ATP 1000 event, after he reached that far in the Italian Open in 2020.

The 19-year-old right-hander, who finished last season with a 5-3 record, which included a run to the semifinal at the ATP 250 Sardinia Open, comes into the European clay season with a 5-2 record in 2021.

Musetti, who appeared in two Challenger finals this year, finishing runner-up to Jaume Munar in Antalya and Soonwoo Kwon in Biella, qualified for the main draw in Acapulco after beating Mexico’s Juan Alejandro Hernandez Serrano, Argentina’s Agustin Velloti and Portugal’s Frederico Silva in the qualifying rounds.

In the main draw, the Italian pulled off a huge upset in the first round, defeating third seed David Schwartzman in three for his first top 10 win. Carrying the momentum into the next round, the Italian stunned another higher-ranked player, as he rebounded from a set down to defeat then World No. 56 Frances Tiafoe of the U.S.

He was not done just yet as he caused another upset, defeating fifth seed Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets. His dream run, however, ended with a straight sets defeat to Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas.

In Miami, Musetti started off well by beating American Michael Mmoh 6-4, 6-4 and then knocking out the 23rd seed Benoit Paire with a 6-3, 6-3 victory, but fell to Marin Cilic in the third round.

Novak Needs to Overcome Three-Match Losing Streak

Facing Musetti in the first round will be Austria’s Dennis Novak, who comes into the tournament on the back of three successive defeats.

The 27-year-old Austrian is 3-5 this year.

Having begun his season at the ATP Cup, Novak defeated Italy’s Fabio Fognini and lost to France’s Nicolas Mahut in the Round Robin stage. He was then knocked out of the first round of the Australian Open by France’s Adrian Mannarino.

Following the slow start, Novak won two in a row in Montpellier, defeating Frence’s Gilles Simon and Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic in the first two rounds to reach the quarterfinal before being ousted by Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk.

The Montpellier exit was followed by two back-to-back first round exits in Marseille and Dubai, as he fell to another Frenchman Hugo Gaston and Australian Alexei Popyrin respectively.

Musetti v Novak Prediction and Tip

While Musetti has been brilliant this season, Novak has struggled a bit.

Both are good players on clay, with Novak winning 14 of his 25 Challenger and Futures title on the surface. Musetti on the other hand has won three of his five Challenger and Futures titles on the surface.

The 19-year-old also reached the final of the Antalya Challenger earlier this year, which was a clay court event. So expect a good contest with the in-form Musetti going through.

Tip: Musetti to win: 1/3 (bet365)
