Ons Jabeur v Martina Trevisan Head to Head

This will be the first occasion when the World No. 30 Jabeur will meet the World No. 92 Trevisan.

Jabeur Desperate to End the Round of 16 Jinx

A year after reaching six quarterfinals but failing to make the semis even once, Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur has now run into a new barrier — the Round of 16.

The 26-year-old has reached the pre-quarterfinal round in five of the six tournaments that she has played in this year, but has filed to advance to the last eight stage.

The only time she fell before the Round of 16 this year was at the Australian Open, where she had become the first Arab woman to reach the quarterfinals in 2020. This year, she was beaten by the eventual champion Naomi Osaka in the third round after she had reached that far by defeating Germany’s Andrea Petkovic and Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the first and second rounds respectively.

Among her Round of 16 exits, she lost to Aryna Sabalenka in Abu Dhabi, Angelique Kerber at the Grampians Trophy, Karolina Pliskova in Doha, Jil Teichmann in Dubai and Sara Sorribes Tormo in Miami. It was the defeat to Pliskova that will hurt her the most as it was a real close match with the Czech winning 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Jabeur had also taken Sorribes Tormo to the deciding set by bageling her in the second but could win only one match in the final set to lose 4-6, 6-0, 1-6.

The World No. 30, who was a finalist in Moscow in 2018, comes into the tournament with a 10-6 record. She will be desperate to make a deep run in Charleston and break the Round of 16 jinx that has plagued her this season.

Trevisan in Woeful Touch

Facing Jabeur in the first round will be unseeded Italian Martina Trevisan, who has won just one of the eight tennis matches she has played this season.

After making a stunning run to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros last year, the 27-year-old lefty has run out of form in 2021. She was beaten in the first rounds of the Abu Dhabi Open, Gippsland Trophy and the Australian Open by Yulia Putintseva, Andrea Petkovic and Ekaterina Alexandrova respectively, before being knocked out by Barbora Krejcikova in the first qualifying round in Doha.

She finally won her first match of the season defeating Australia’s Arina Rodionova with a come-from-behind win in the first qualifying round for Dubai, but lost her next to Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko. She did make it to the main draw as a lucky loser but was outplayed by France’s Caroline Garcia.

Another first round exit followed as Trevisan went down to Serbia’s Nina Stojanovic in Monterrey and then was dumped out of the first qualifying round in Miami by Belarus’ Olga Govortsova.

A clay-court specialist, Trevisan shocked the world by reaching the last eight of the French Open in 2020. Playing as a qualifier, the Italian accounted for Camila Giorgi, Cori Gauff, Maria Sakkari and Kiki Bertens before going down to eventual champion Iga Swiatek.

Ons Jabeur v Martina Trevisan Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is in decent touch and will be a favourite to win this contest. Expect the Tunisian to advance with a straight sets win and set-up a Round of 32 clash with either Camila Giorgi or Hailey Baptiste.

Tip: Jabeur to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
