Clara Tauson v Daniela Seguel Head to Head

2021 Lyon Open champion Clara Tauson of Denmark comes to Bogoto with a 5-1 main draw record in 2021.
The 18-year-old Dane is 21-4 from all her matches across levels this season, which includes her maiden WTA title in Lyon and two ITF titles in Altenkirchen, Germany and Fujairah, the United Arab Emirates.
A 12-time finalist and nine-time winner on the ITF tour, Tauson qualified for Lyon by defeating a couple of French players in straight sets. She made an immediate impact in the main draw, upsetting top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia 6-3, 6-4 and carried that form right till the final, defeating Hungary’s Timea Babos (Round of 16), Italy’s Camila Giorgi (quarterfinal) and Spain’s seventh seed Paula Badosa (semifinals) without losing a set.
She continued her dominance in the final, with a 6-4, 6-1 rout of fellow qualifier Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland. It was Tauson’s second win against the Swiss player this year, having beaten her in the ITF final in Fujairah.
Following her Lyon success, Tauson qualified for St. Petersburg Open but lost her first round match to Russia’s Daria Kasatkina in straight sets.
Tauson first made an impression at the French Open last year, reaching the second round on her Grand Slam debut after upsetting American Jennifer Brady. She will be looking to carry her last month’s form to Bogota.

Seguel Gets to Winning Ways in Qualifiers
Facing Tuason in the first round will be Chile’s Daniela Seguel, who entered the main draw after easing past both her qualifying opponents.
The Chilean, ranked 213th in the world, defeated the United States’ Daniela Lao 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of qualifying and then ousted Germany’s Katharina Gerlach 6-1, 6-1 in the second round.
The 28-year-old, who has 16 titles from 23 finals at the ITF circuit, had won just once from her five matches prior to the start of the Bogoto Open qualifiers in 2021.
Seguel had begun the year by defeating the Netherlands’ Bibiane Schoofs in the first round of the Australian Open qualifiers. Since then, she lost to Serbia’s Aleksandra Kuric in the second qualifying round and that defeat was followed by three consecutive ITF losses.

Tauson’s been brilliant this year and she will be a heavy favourite in this contest. Expect the Dane to ease into the next round with a straight sets win and set-up a second round clash with either Romania’s Mihaela Buzarnescu or France’s Harmony Tan, who face each other in the first round.
