Kwon Taken to the Distance in Opener

South Korea’s Kwon had gone into his first round match at 2/1 odds against the Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune, the 17-year-old Dane who has been tipped by many as the player to watch out in the future.

As it turned out, nearly an hour and a half into the contest, the match was tied at a set apiece and when Rune took a 3-1 lead in the final set with a break of serve, it looked like the match was going to script.

Kwon broke back, only to lose his serve again and then broke back for the second time to level things out at 4-4. The pair held serve more easily after that to push the final set into a tie-breaker which went neck in neck for the first eight points.

It was when Kwon broke Rune on back to back serves that he was able to carve out the victory and romp into the second round.

Bagnis Sees off the Cerundolo Threat

In recent times, Francisco Cerundolo surprised a few of his opponents, so it didn’t come across as much of a surprise when the Buenos Aires finalist went into his opener against Bagnis as a favourite at 4/5.

Bagnis, however, is an experienced pro with the 31-year-old having been on the circuit since 2005 and he made use of that experience to good effect as he carved out a neat 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over his fellow countryman.

The Santiago Open finalist needed two hours to register the victory, breaking his opponent thrice in the first set, and then again in the fifth game of the second to take control of the encounter. And while Bagnis was broken back in the eighth game and was taken to a tie-breaker, he proved to be the stronger of the two players to claim it 7-2.

The Argentine will now look to add to his strong season record when he takes to court in a bid to add another quarterfinal appearance under his belt.

Kwon v Bagnis Prediction and Tip

If Kwon was 2/1 to win the last match, he starts off 3/1 in this one but unlike the previous one, he would be up against an experienced player in form. Bagnis to win this after bit of a fight from Kwon.

Tip: Bagnis to win AND over 19.5 games: 13/10 (bet365)
