Czech Republic’s Tereza Martincova overturned a one-set deficit to beat Switzerland’s Leonie Kung in the first round in Bogota.
Having failed to save the only break point in the first set, Martincova fended off four of six in the second and seven of nine in the third to defeat Kung 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and 14 minutes.
Martincova herself had 10 chances to break her opponent’s serve and she capitalized on six of them.
The win improved the 26-year-old to 6-4 in the main draws on the Tour this year. Overall, she is 16-7 from all competitions across levels in 2021.
A four-time winner on the ITF Circuit, Martincova reached the second round as a qualifier in Lyon, the third round as a qualifier in Dubai, the second round in St Petersburg and the second round in Miami, also as a qualifier.
Her biggest wins this year came in Dubai, when she beat World No. 75 Krystina Pliskova in the first round and World No. 11 Kiki Bertens in the next. It was also the first occasion when she reached the third round of a WTA 1000 event.

Osorio Ousts Vickery
2019 U.S. Open girl’s singles champion Maria Camila Osorio Serrano looked in good touch as she knocked out America’s Sachia Vickery in the first round of the Bogota Open.
The local hope needed an hour and 24 minutes to defeat the American 6-3, 6-2.
The 19-year-old, who won two qualifying rounds at the Australian Open this year but failed to qualify for the main draw, is playing in her second tournament of the year, having qualified for the Monterrey Open last month. She, however, lost her first round match to Kaja Juvan in straight sets.
Osorio, who has three ITF titles, is 10-5 overall across events in 2021. She is a solid clay court player, with all three of her titles coming on the surface.
