Filip Krajinovic v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head

World number 36 Krajinovic and the 37th-ranked Basilashvili have faced off twice on the ATP circuit and once in the Challengers. It’s 1-1 in ATP main draw matches while Basilashvili won that Challenger match in Nur-Sultan.

Krajinovic to Play Clay Court Match

After a modest start to the season on the hard court surfaces, it will be Krajinovic’s first taste of clay for the season. Last year, while the Serb had played in a few clay court exhibition tournaments when the pandemic was on, his record in ATP competitions read a measely 2-2 on dirt.

He had surprised Felix Auger-Aliassime in Rome before getting past Marco Cecchinato in the second round there. However, this was followed by a defeat to Novak Djokovic at that very tournament and a first round loss at the French Open to fellow Serb Nikola Milojevic.

This year, Krajinovic kick-started with a third round appearance at the Australian Open but then fell in two of the following three matches. He missed the Miami Masters but will look to get back to his best on a surface he has made one ATP final – the Budapest Open of 2019.

Unfortunately for him, if he thought he would get an easy look back in on clay, that is not to be the case.

Basilashvili Made Cagliari Semis

It’s been a strange season for Basilashvili so far. He began it by winning a couple of rounds at the Antalya Open but then went on a five-match losing streak which included four first round defeats.

Out of the blue, Basilashvili then won the ATP Doha, with wins over Roger Federer, Taylor Fritz and Roberto Bautista Agut, but then again fell in the opening rounds at both Dubai and Miami.

Shifting focus to clay where Basilashvili had lost four successive matches last year, the Georgian took three sets in both, his second round and quarterfinal to win the matches, defeating Jozef Kovalik and Jan-Lennard Struff only to go down to Laslo Djere.

Can he now begin well in this Masters 1000 competition or will this be the start of another losing streak?

Krajinovic v Basilashvili Prediction and Tip

Krajinovic’s solid record on clay makes him a huge favourite here, especially against a player who has struggled this season in all but one tournament. He is 4/9 to win it and 11/10 to do that in straight sets.

Tip: Krajinovic to win in straight sets: 11/10 (bet365)
