World No. 26 Casper Ruud will be making his second main draw appearance at the Monte-Carlo Masters.

A three-time finalist on the tour and the winner of the 2020 Argentina Open, Ruud comes to the tournament with a 6-3 record this year.

Having lost his first match of the season to Jiri Vessely in Melbourne-2, Ruud went on to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open, this was the first time he had reached the Round of 16 at a major and in the process also equalled his father Christian’s best result at the Melbourne major.

Ruud defeated Jordan Thompson, Tommy Paul and Radu Albot in the first three rounds in Melbourne but withdrew against Andrey Rublev in the Round of 16, while trailing two sets to love.

At the Mexican Open, Ruud defeated Daniel Elahi Galan and Tallon Griekspoor in the first two rounds but yet again retired before the start of the quarterfinal against Alexander Zverev.

He featured at the Andalucia Open this week and defeated Gianluca Mager in the Round of 16 but fell to Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinal.

Rune Ready To Impress on ATP 1000 Debut

Facing Ruud in the first round will be junior World No. 1 Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune of Denmark, who grabbed attention at the Chile Open last month with his stunning run to the quarterfinals in what was only his second Tour-level tournament.

Beginning the season with three finals from three ITF events, Rune captured his fourth ITF title in Bressuire, France.

He made his ATP main draw debut at the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires, a week before the start of the Chile Open, and immediately made an impact, winning the first set against fifth seed Albert Ramos Vinolas. But the Spaniard came back in the contest and handed the Dane a defeat on debut.

The 17-year-old, however, didn’t have to wait long for his first win as he reached the main draw in Chile by winning three close qualifiers against Portugal’s Goncalo Oliveira, Ecuador’s Emilio Gomez and Argentina’s Renzo Olivo.

Rune recorded his maiden ATP main draw win against Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, winning the first round contest 6-3, 6-2. In the Round of 16, he scored the biggest win of his career, defeating the second seed and World No. 29 Benoit Paire 6-2, 6-3 in just 62 minutes. His run eventually ended in the quarterfinal with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat to Argentina’s Federico Delbonis.

Following his exploits at the Chile Open, the 2019 French Open boy’s champion lost to Baez in the first round of Santiago Challenger and failed to qualify for the Marbella Challenger last week.

This week, he competed at the Andalucia Open and gave South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo a tough fight before falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7) in the first round. The Danish teenager will be aiming for another impressive showing in his first match at an ATP 1000 event.

Ruud v Rune Prediction and Tip

Ruud has fair amount of experience at this level, he is a three-time ATP finalist and was in the semifinals of the Rome Masters last year. Rune on the other hand is extremely talented but these are very early days in his career. Winning a set against the World No. 26 will be seen as a huge achievement for the 17-year-old, ranked 321st in the world.

Expect Rune to give a tough fight but Ruud to win and advance.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 10/11 (bet365)
