Caruso makes the main draw with victories over Martin Klizan and Bernard Tomic in the qualifying rounds of this competition but more importantly he showed enough confidence to wrap up both the matches in straight sets.
His last two attempts on clay this season had yielded two opening round defeats, losing at the Antalya Open and Buenos Aires. Can he, however, turn things around against a low-ranked opponent and notch up a rare victory on the red dirt?

Catarina Gets a Rare Chance on the ATP Circuit
Getting a chance to feature in the main draw of an ATP tournament is a rarity for Catarina who is ranked outside the 350, as he looks to add to his appearance collection. He played in the main draw at both, the 2018 and 2019 editions, and was sent out in the first round.
That said, Catarina manage to push Milos Raonic to three sets on his debut in this competition, unfortunately struggling to do much more.
Catarina is also more of a hard court player with all of his eight titles on the Futures circuit coming on that surface. Earlier this season, he had won one title in a Futures tournament, having also made the quarterfinal of the St. Petersburg Challenger in March.
This will be the first clay court match he will participate in as the Monegasque player looks to register his first ever win of his career. By the looks of his own form and his opponent’s results, it does look highly unlikely.
Caruso v Catarina Prediction and Tip
Caruso should, on paper, be a runaway winner but never underestimate the power of the unknow and the Italian will be wary of that fact. Which is why while he starts at 1/7 to win this, we will be looking at the games handicap for this.
