Fresh From Title Win, Carreno Busta Hopes To Continue Run Of Form

Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta has been in good form in recent times, most recently a solid 2020 season where he had a 20-12 record, which included a run to the semifinal of the U.S. Open for the second time in his career.

After a decent ATP Cup, where he had a good 2-1 record for Spain, it was an unfortunate end to his Australian Open, pulling out in his third round encounter against Grigor Dimitrov with injury and missing most of the rest of the hard court season.

A return in Dubai saw him eliminated early against the in-form Marton Fucosvics, but he has done well since the start of the clay season last week. Being top-seeded at the Andalucia Open last week, after a first round bye, he did well to make the semi-finals dropping between four and five games each match and looking good for a title run there.

Difficult semi-final and final encounters followed, where he was pushed to three sets by Albert Ramos – Vinalos and Jaume Munar respectively, but prevailed on both occasions for a title win. Now back at number 12 in the ATP rankings, and with a fresh trophy in the bag, the Spaniard will hope to continue the strong run, here at Monte Carlo and onwards on the red clay.

Travaglia Looking To Good Season Back On Track

It was a good start to the new season for Italy’s Stefano Travaglia. The Italian displayed great character as he came back from behind a few times, to reach his first ATP final at Grace Ocean Road Open in Melbourne. A title remained elusive though as he went down to fellow Italian Jannik Sinner.

Travaglia also featured in the Antalya Open earlier this year, winning his first two matches and reaching the quarterfinals before being beaten by David Goffin in straight sets.

The 29-year-old Italian was coming off a good 2020 season, which saw him reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career, as he beat Pablo Andujar and Kei Nishikori in the first two rounds of the French Open before going down to the King of Clay Rafa Nadal.

He also reached the third round of a Masters 1000 event for the first time last year, when he won his first two rounds in Rome before going down to compatriot Matteo Berrettini.

Since the good start earlier on this year, it was a dismal run for the Italian for most of March, with four consecutive opening round losses, of which twice he lost to Frances Tiafoe. Moving from the faster hard courts to the slower clay,  Travaglia was hoping for a change of fortunes there on. But, leading French veteran Gilles Simon by a set (6-1) at the Sardegna opener, the Italian flauntered and the wily Frenchman took full advantage furthering Travaglia’s painful loss of form aand early losses.

Carreno Busta v Travaglia Prediction and Tip

Carreno Busta is coming off a good title win last week, and although he maybe tired, he should have no trouble with a straight sets win in this match.

Tip: Carreno Busta  to win in straight sets: 11/10 (bet365)
