Ons Jabeur v Alycia Parks Head to Head

Jabeur and Parks have never faced each other in the past, so this would be their first meeting on the WTA tour.

Jabeur Starts With a Brilliant Win

27th-ranked Jabeur haven’t had the kind of season, she would have hoped for. In fact, she has had mixed results in 2021, and would certainly be hoping for better results on the red dirt than what she achieved on the hard courts of Australia and America.

Undoubtedly, clay is Jabeur’s favourite surface. After all, the Tunisian had shown great potential on clay in 2020, when she progressed through to the pre-quarters of the French Open in Paris.

Last week, her dexterity on the surface was again on full display as she reached the semifinals in Charleston, beating the likes of former World No. 11 Alize Cornet and 17-year-old American sensation Coco Gauff in the process.

This week, Jabeur launched her campaign in Charleston with an extremely impressive 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Switzerland’s Stefanie Voegele on Tuesday. Indeed, the Tunisian was clinical in all the departments of the game. Surely, she was immaculate on her serve, imparted a great amount of topspin on her ground-strokes and returned really well all through the match.

Despite being one of the best players in the world right now, Jabeur has been a bit unlucky because she hasn’t been able to win a WTA title. However, there’s no denying the fact that she has the experience and the game to end her title drought here in Charleston.

But, what remains to be seen is whether she will be able to accomplish her long cherished goal this week or not.

Parks Makes Impressive Main Draw Debut

Jabeur’s opponent in the second round is a 20-year-old qualifier Alycia Parks, who made her main draw debut in Charleston. After beating Kateryna Bondarenko in the qualifiers, Parks showed the full repertoire of her shots as she crushed her countrywoman Grace Min 6-1, 6-4 in the first round.

Even though, Parks is a greenhorn and has little experience of playing on the WTA tour, her willingness to learn and improve quickly will keep her in good stead going forward in her career. Moreover, with her wins over Bondarenko and Min, she has shown that she has the temperament to succeed on the grueling women’s circuit.

Parks shouldn’t feel disheartened even if she loses to Jabeur as she is still learning the trades of the sport. Actually, it is a learning curve and a lesson from someone like Jabeur would give her more insights about her own game in particular and her future adversaries in general.

Jabeur v Parks Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is an overwhelming favourite here at 1/5 and she is expected to beat Parks in straight sets.

Moreover, after analyzing Jabeur’s performance in the first round, one could easily say that she is extremely eager to win this tournament to rip the monkey off her back. Her desperation is palpable at the moment and certainly, she would be really tough to stop on the clay courts of Charleston this week.

Tip: Jabeur to win in straight sets: 3/10 (bet365)
