Tsitsipas Dismantles Garin in Round of 16

After receiving a bye in the first round, Tsitsipas met Aslan Karatsev of Russia in the second round of the tournament on Tuesday.

The Greek wasted no time whatsoever as he annihilated Karatsev with the help of his bazooka serves and his solid game from the baseline, earning an easy 6-3, 6-4 win in an hour and 25 minutes, to move into the next round.

In the third round, the 22-year-old Tsitsipas, came across a tough challenger in the form of Cristian Garin of Chile for a spot in the quarters. Garin, who won the Santiago Open earlier in 2021, was not an easy opponent, considering his impressive form.

However, Tsitsipas was up to the challenge as he kept the pressure on the Chilean right through the contest, eventually accomplishing a straightforward 6-3, 6-4 triumph in an hour and 40 minutes.

With his victory over Garin in the Principality, Tsitsipas has achieved his best result in Monte Carlo. Indeed, this is the first time, when he has reached the quarterfinals at the picturesque Monte Carlo Country Club.

Ever since he arrived big time on the scene after shocking 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer at the Australian Open in 2019, Tsitsipas’ consistency has been his biggest strength. It is quite evident from the fact that he has made it to the quarterfinals or better at six tournaments in a row, starting with his semifinal run at the Australian Open in February.

Fokina Continues His Fun Run in Monte Carlo

Standing between Tsitsipas and a spot in the semifinals is the World No. 58 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The 21-year-old from Malaga, Spain put up yet another spectacular show in Monte Carlo, this time against the former US Open semifinalist Lucas Pouille as he beat him 6-2, 7-6 to book his place in the quarters on Thursday.

Fokina’s victory over Pouille wasn’t a one-off. In fact, ever since his arrival in Monaco, the Spaniard has been in outstanding form. Undoubtedly, his rich form has helped him in earning comfortable victories over the eighth-seeded Matteo Berrettini of Italy in the second round and talented Australian Alex de Minaur in the first round.

Tsitsipas v Fokina Prediction and Tip

Despite being the fourth seed and the World No. 5, Tsitsipas would be the underdog in this match as he rightly said that he is relatively new to the red dirt, while his rival Fokina has been born and brought up on clay. There’s no doubt about it that Fokina’s game is suited to the slower courts and that’s why, he will be the overwhelming favorite in his battle against the Greek star.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win: 2/5 (bet365)
