Ons Jabeur v Danka Kovinic Head to Head

These two promising youngsters met last week in the semifinals of the Volvo Car Open on the same court and it was Kovinic, who outclassed Jabeur 6-3, 6-2 in straightforward fashion to level their head-to-head record at 1-all. On the other hand, the Tunisian had won their maiden encounter, again on clay, in Budapest in the year 2018.

Both Kovinic and Jabeur are in extremely rich form at the moment and nobody can actually predict the winner of this contest. One can only expect a blockbuster of a contest.

Clinical Kovinic Knocks Out Rogers

In the quarterfinals on Friday, Kovinic tamed the third-seeded Shelby Rogers 7-5, 6-1 to book her spot in the semifinals against Jabeur on Saturday. Kovinic, who lives in Montenegro, nestled around a picturesque setting surrounding the Adriatic Sea, but considering the success she has achieved in Charleston, she would want to shift her base from Monaco to South Carolina.

Indeed, before her arrival in Charleston, Kovinic was struggling big time as she had won only two matches in her five previous tournaments in Abu Dhabi, Australia and Mexico.

On the contrary, she has won eight matches within a span of eleven days in Daniel Island. In fact, she would have won her maiden WTA title last week, but a confident Veronika Kudermetova stunned her in the title clash of the Volvo Car Open, ending her hopes of achieving her big breakthrough on the women’s circuit.

There’s no doubt that Kovinic is supremely confident about her abilities on the court and is hardly scared, even when she is taking on a big name in women’s tennis.

Case in point was her victory over two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova last week. Moreover, her recent exploits have helped her in pushing her ranking from No.91 to 65 and now she is destined to break into the top-60 next week.

Jabeur Hammers Hibino

Kovinic will be up against Jabeur, the top seed, for a place in the tournament’s final on Sunday. While, there’s no doubt that Kovinic’s win over Rogers was impressive, Jabeur’s performance against Nao Hibino of Japan was simply breathtaking.

The Tunisian, who is on fire at the moment, looked like a player from a different planet as she hammered the Japanese 6-0, 6-1 on Friday.

With her scintillating win over Hibino, Jabeur improved her win/loss record to an imposing 17-7 in 2021, placing her second on the WTA charts as far as most wins for the year are concerned. The only woman ahead of her is former French Open and Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza, who has so far notched up 21 wins in 2021.

If that wasn’t scary enough, then her opponents have other stats to worry about as well. Jabeur has won 18 of her last 19 games in Charleston and on an average, she needed only 22 minutes to win each of those three sets. Also, with her 115 aces, Jabeur is third on the WTA list as only Kudermetova (130) and World No. 1 Ash Barty (127) have fired more aces than her.

Kovinic v Jabeur Prediction and Tip

World No. 27 Jabeur starts as the slight favourite in this match as she is playing unbelievable tennis right now. Certainly, if she does play like she has been playing this week, it is highly likely that she will be able to avenge her Volvo Open defeat at the hands of Kovinic in Charleston on Saturday.

Tip: Jabeur to win: 4/7 (bet365)
