Dominik Koepfer v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

World No.56 Koepfer and Frenchman Moutet have never faced each other in the past and this would be the first occasion, when they will meet on the ATP tour.

Koepfer, who is far more experienced and proficient on clay, would be eager to win this match in straight sets, while Moutet will look to put him under as much pressure as possible during the course of the contest.

Koepfer’s Impressive Run on Clay

At 7-7, Koepfer’s win/loss record isn’t that impressive in 2021, but the German has certainly achieved some fine results, particularly on clay.

While, there’s no doubt that Koepfer kickstarted the season with a string of losses in Melbourne, including a second round defeat at the hands of reigning US Open champion Dominic Thiem in the Australian Open, he has also progressed through to the semifinals of the Acapulco Open in Mexico.

In fact, there’s no predicament about it that Koepfer likes to play on the clay courts and most of his best performances have come on the surface, his run in Acapulco has certainly changed a lot of things for him.

With victories over the likes of former Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic and unorthodox British left-hander Cameron Norrie, Koepfer finally found the true stature of his game. Indeed, those wins would have helped him gain the much needed confidence, which is required to beat the players, who are ranked inside the top-50 of the rankings.

Moutet in Poor Form

Koepfer’s adversary in the opening round of the Barcelona Open is the 21-year-old Frenchman Corentin Moutet. Moutet, who is currently ranked 76th in the world, began the year with a bang as he made it through to the semifinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Melbourne.

Indeed, Moutet had a dream run in Melbourne. After all, he had defeated the likes of Frances Tiafoe of the United States, Spanish clay courter Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the ever improving Brit James Duckworth and former World No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria.

However, since that extraordinary run in Australia, Moutet’s performance has only gone downhill. In fact, his performance has been so poor that he has not been able to win consecutive matches in three months.

Still, nobody should argue against his ability to bounce back, but doing so on clay would be really tough for him. Despite being a Frenchman, where clay courts are in abundance, Moutet’s game isn’t made for the surface.

Koepfer v Moutet and Tip

Koepfer is a solid clay courter and that is something, which would keep him in good stead in his clash against Moutet in Barcelona. Unlike, Koepfer, who thrives on the red dirt, Moutet isn’t all that comfortable on clay. Expecting an easy outing for the German on Monday.

Tip: Koepfer to win in straight sets: 6/4 (bet365)
