Denis Shapovalov v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head

This all-Canadian rivalry has seen four previous matches with both players having won two apiece. Their only match on clay came at the 2019 Madrid Masters and a straight-set win for Auger-Aliassime followed soon after.

They had earlier met at the 2021 Australian Open as well and Auger-Aliassime needed three sets to get over Shapovalov.

Shapovalov Eases Past Chardy

Jeremy Chardy proved to be no match for Shapovalov as the Canadian sent his opponent out with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the second round. After getting a first round bye, Shapovalov needed an hour and 39 minutes to seal his third round place against a fellow Canadian.

Playing in his first clay court match of the season, Shapovalov was quick off the blocks as he broke in the very first game of the opening set. Soon after, he got a second break of serve to take a 4-1 lead and while Chardy pulled one back in the sixth game, Shapovalov had enough fuel left in the tank to serve out and win the opening set.

The second set began like the first one had, with Shapovalov getting the early break but this time around the experienced Chardy thwarted his opponent by saying two break-points in the sixth game and then breaking back in the seventh.

Unfortunately for Chardy, as he served to stay in the match, he fell 30-40 behind and Shapovalov jumped in to wrap up the encounter off that point.

It might not get that easy for Shapovalov against a player like Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime Comes Back from Set Down

It was always expected to be a tight contest when Auger-Aliassime took on Lorenzo Musetti but two hours and five minutes later, the Canadian would have been reasonably satisfied with his opening workout.

Sure Auger-Aliassime lost the first set to Musetti but once he had got some control over the proceedings, there was no looking back as Auger-Aliassime blasted the Italian over the next two sets.

A pair of service breaks came in games two and three but the most crucial break of the match occurred in the eighth game of the second set. From that point onward there was no looking back for Auger-Aliassime who then ran off with eight successive game wins in a row to pocket the match.

Auger-Aliassime had earlier come into the match on the back of a first round exit in the first clay court tournament he had played a week ago at Monte-Carlo Masters.

This will should give him the confidence he has lacked on clay court surfaces.

Shapovalov v Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Tip

An all-Canadian battle that looks quite even. We will go with three sets in the encounter as both try and jostle for space in the top 10.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
