Ash Barty v Shelby Rogers Head to Head

There have been four previous matches played between these two players and Barty has won every single time. This includes three matches this season itself, including one at the Charleston Open on clay where Barty needed three sets to get through to make it to the quarterfinals.

Barty in Murderous Mood

Barty is the points leader on the WTA charts for this season to go with being the number one ranked player and that is to do with the manner in which she has drilled deep into competitions.

It has not been all hunky-dory for Barty getting to title-deciders, she has had to fight hard to get there but the bottom-line is the Aussie has found a way to get through. In doing so, Barty has won three WTA titles including one just prior to this tournament in Stuttgart.

The world number one had a wretched Stuttgart Open draw, with Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabalenka to face and beat, and she was tested every single time. And as mentioned earlier, she found a way to get past her opponents.

Can Barty now do the same to a player whom she has defeated thrice already this season?

Rogers Solid, at Career-Best

Currently ranked 43rd in the world, Rogers has climbed up to her best-ever WTA ranking and that has been thanks to her consistencies.

Rogers, who has never won a WTA title in her career, has gone deep into competitions before this season but it’s tough to find a year at which she has been this regular at the deep end of so many tournaments.

At back to back tournaments in Melbourne, at the Yarra Valley Classic and Australian Open, Rogers won three matches in a row before falling to Barty both times, and then made the quarterfinal at Adelaide as well.

More recently, on clay, Rogers reached as far as the third round in Charleston – losing to Barty again – and then going down to Danka Kovinic in the second tournament held in Charleston the following week.

All in all, it is a pointer to how Rogers has been a difficult opponent, but she will have to do a lot more to find a way past the world number one.

Barty v Rogers Prediction and Tip

Barty has always found a way to get past Rogers and while the latter did take her to a third set in their previous meeting, it doesn’t seem very likely Barty will let go of her advantage over her American opponent so easily.

Tip: Barty to win AND Over 19.5 games: 11/8 (bet365)
