Dimitrov Begins Decently on Clay

While Dimitrov has won just one title on clay, his career win-loss ratio on this surface isn’t too far from his record on hard court surfaces. On clay, Dimitrov has a ratio of 0.59, as compared to 0.61 on hard courts, a surface on which he has won six titles.

Which is why it shouldn’t have been much of a surprise when Dimitrov started off the clay court swing with a couple of wins at the Monte Carlo Masters. Defeating Jan-Lennard Struff and Jeremy Charcy, Dimitrov reached the third round of that tournament before facing Rafael Nadal.

Nadal registered a crushing win over the Bulgarian but that’s to be expected against a player of the Spaniard’s calibre.

With three back to back quarterfinals to start things off this season – at the Murray Rivers Open, Australian Open and Acapulco Open – Dimitrov will have the confidence coming into this one against a player whose career-best ranking has been 50th.

Harris Struggles on Clay Well-Known

24-year-old Harris isn’t very old at the highest level of the sport, and that has translated into just 10 matches on clay. Unfortunately for the South African there is nothing to suggest in those matches he will be able to test an opponent of the ability of Dimitrov.

Harris has won just two matches on red dirt, and both of those wins have come at the French Open – at the first round at each of the previous two editions.

Earlier this year, Harris also played in the first round of the Estoril Open and went down to Marco Cecchinato. And while Cecchinato is bit of a clay court specialist, it’s been a while she he has done too much of note at the highest ATP level.

What all of this points out to is something we suspect from the beginning – Harris will have it difficult even against a player who has won just one title on this surface.

Dimitrov v Harris Prediction and Tip

Dimitrov should pocket this one and in straight sets too against a player who does not just have very little experience but has also struggled a lot on clay.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
