Petra Kvitova v Magda Linette Head to Head

There have been two previous meeting between Kvitova and Linette and the Czech has won both of them easily. The first came at the 2016 Montreal Open while in 2019 they met again on the grass courts of Wimbledon, with Kvitova dropping a total of eight games across those two matches.

World number 12 Kvitova will be reasonably satisfied with her workout on clay in recent times but a part of her would have wanted to go deeper than she did in at least one of the three competitions she has participated in on that surface.

At Stuttgart Open, Kvitova was the defending champion but fell to Elina Svitolina from being a set up in their quarterfinal.

She did better in Madrid with wins over Marie Bouzkova, Angelique Kerber and Veronika Kudermetova taking her to the last eight stage. Unfortunately for Kvitova, she was stalled by the world’s best player currently, Ash Barty, who took three sets to take her down, bringing her season record on clay to 6-3.

Kvitova has already won a title this season, defeating Gabine Muguruza in the final in Doha but since then only once in five competitions has she won three back to back matches. Can she turn things around in this tournament?

Linette 0-5 on Clay

It’s been a while since Linette won a match on clay. It was five matches ago, at the Strasbourg Open of 2020 where the Polish player clinched an opening round match but then came a tumble.

She went down in the second round in that competition, lost her opener at the French Open which followed and has now lost three matches in a row this year. These include losses in the two tournaments played in Charleston and then again in Madrid early this week.

Making it worse for Linette is she had gone into two of three matches as a favourite; against Maria Serrano in Charleston and then again against Zheng Saisai, who before that match had a 4-9 win-loss record for the season.

Linette’s record this season is one of the more appalling ones for a player ranked in the top 50; just one win to four losses. And taking on Kvitova in the opener isn’t going to cheer her up too much.

Kvitova v Linette Prediction and Tip

This looks to be headed only one way with Kvitova expected to ram home the advantage and register a third successive straight-set win.

Tip: Kvitova to win in straight sets: 4/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
