Christina McHale v Vera Zvonareva Head to Head

While no previous meeting has happened in the main draw of any competitions, McHale defeated Zvonareva in a qualifier played at the 2019 Indian Wells Open.

McHale’s Won Just One Main Draw Match in 2021

Once ranked 24th in the world, McHale has fallen to 90th at the moment and that can be seen from the manner in which she has suffered one loss after the other all season.

Having played in seven tournaments before this one, McHale has won just one main draw match so far. That came on the clay courts of Charleston with the American having shocked Sara Errani there.

She followed that result up with a difficult second round defeat to Maria Serrano, and then lost in her opener at the Saint-Malo ITF competition.

At her best, McHale had made it as far as the quarterfinal of this competition in Rome but those days, in 2015, are long gone. It will be interesting to see if she can win against a fellow qualifier here, registering a rare main draw win.

Zvonareva in Better Form Than Opponent

While the former world number two is now ranked outside the top 110, Zvonareva has some better results going her way this season.

She started off with a second round appearance at the Abu Dhabi Open, went better at the Yarra Valley Classic and then stormed her way into the semifinal of the St. Petersburg Open.

And then moving her attention to clay, Zvonareva managed a second round appearance at the Istanbul Open and a first round loss in Madrid. She overcame Misaki Doi and Kristina Mladenovic in the qualifiers to make the main draw here and as luck would have it faces another qualifier.

Can the former Italian Open semifinalist make it past the opening round here, something she hasn’t done in Rome since 2008? She wouldn’t get a better chance.

McHale v Zvonareva Prediction and Tip

Zvonareva is 4/11 to win this and we expect her to do this easily, in straight sets given her opponent’s recent struggles.

Tip: Zvonareva to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
