Serena Williams v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between Serena and Siniakova before this one in Parma.

Coming into this tournament in Parma after having suffered a shock opening loss in Rome last week, Serena had a point to prove. And she did that with aplomb as she eased her way past qualifier Lisa Pigato in her opener here.
Serena won 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 10 minutes to win her first match on clay, and since having reached the semifinal at the Australian Open earlier this year.
The American blasted six aces and despite getting broken once – which came in her very first service game – she was always ahead in the game as a result of her brilliant serving. She won 78% of her service points, having lost the first four on serve to begin with.
It must be quickly added here that Serena was playing an opponent ranked 572nd in the world, so the result was on expected lines. Her real test comes from round two when she takes on a player who has once come close to breaking into the top 30.
And while Serena does hold the advantage, it would be interesting to see how she goes after having crashed out early from the Italian Open to a player ranked 42nd in the world.

Siniakova Routs Favourite Tauson
Clara Tauson has been a player in form in recent times and there was no surprise she had come into this first round match as a favourite – 1/2 by some estimates – against Siniakova. Instead, it was Siniakova who turned the tables on her Danish opponent with a straightforward win.
Siniakova cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in a little less than an hour and a half to set up her first ever meeting with Serena.
A quick exchange of breaks in the first set saw Siniakova lead 2-1 but back to back breaks followed soon after that to help the Czech carve out an easy set win.
Tauson saved three break-points in the very first game of the second set, and another in the fifth to push it to 3-3. That, unfortunately was where her fight fizzled out as the Istanbul Open quarterfinalist Siniakova broke two more times to pouch the match.
She will hope to dish out a similar performance against Serena come round two.
