Amanda Anisimova v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Head to Head
Only one previous match has been played between these two players before this and it was Anisimova who had won that Hiroshima Open encounter in 2018 in straight sets.

A string of poor results and injury problems has pushed Anisimova to 40th in the world, having hit her career-best of 21st a while ago. Which is why her first round win over Jasmine Paolini, especially the manner of it, will go some way in helping her get some of her old confidence back.
Anisimova would need that too. She has, after all, not won more than a match in any of the tournaments she’s played this season while having also crashed out of the opening round at Madrid.
There have been signs of returning back to close to her best, but Anisimova needs results going her way for starters and this win over Paolini looks to be a good start.
The American looked to be in for a fight when the first set went to serve till the fifth game but out of nowhere she broke twice to pocket the lead. In the second, the break of serves came quicker and helped Anisimova go 4-0 up before Paolini finally found a way past her serve.
By then, however, Anisimova had had the measure of her opponent and another break of serve sealed the deal for her. Can she now finally make it two in two?

Schmiedlova Usurps Venus in Opener
Having made it to the main draw as a qualifier, Schmiedlova had started out as a favourite against Venus Williams at odds of 3/10 to clinch a win. For a while, however, it seemed like an upset was in the offing when Venus grabbed the first set after being 3-5 down in it.
However, Schmiedlova came back strongly in the second as she broke Venus twice to get herself an equaliser.
Things looked to be going out of control in the decider when Schmiedlova dropped her serve first up but from there on it was all one-way traffic as she won six of the next seven games to carve out her win in two hours and 41 minutes.
Interestingly this was Schmiedlova’s first main draw win on clay for the season but coming up against Anisimova things could get way tougher.
Anisimova v Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip
This looks to be a straightforward one for Anisimova but that’s as far as a win is concerned. Can she take this in straight sets though? A tad risky in our opinion.
