Arthur Rinderknech v Roberto Carballés Baena Head to Head

While these two players have never faced off in a competitive match at the highest level before this, they had met in a Challenger competition earlier this year in Belgrade itself. And it was Carballés Baena who came through in that first round match in straight sets.

Rinderknech Much Improved This Season

Having played his first main draw match last season at the French Open, Rinderknech has gone from strength to strength this year. The Frenchman added to that tally by qualifying for the Marseille Open where he then defeated Mikhail Kukukshkin and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to reach the quarterfinals.

Playing in Belgrade V1.0 last month, Rinderknech won a couple of qualifying rounds again before putting it past Juan Ignacio Londer and more recently, as a lucky loser at the Lyon Open, he registered one of his best career wins.

Taking on Jannik Sinner in the second round, Rinderknech came back from a set down to carve out a difficult but satisfying three-set win over the Italian talent. Such was his play, Sinner admitted after the match he was unable to find a solution to the issues he faced.

Rinderknech now faces an out of form player who has barely won a thing this year.

Carballés Baena Struggling for Wins

The last time Carballés Baena won a main draw match this year was at the Santiago Open where he reached the quarterfinal. Since then, he has featured in three Challenger competitions and five ATP competitions and never gotten past the first round.

In fact at three of those competitions, Carballés Baena lost in the qualifiers itself but gained entry into the first main draw as a lucky loser.

Here as well Carballés Baena has made it through to the main draw as a qualifier, defeating both his opponents Mirza Basic and Vit Kopriva in straight sets.

The former world number 72 needs a few wins under his belt to get some of his momentum, some of his form back.
