Slovak Qualifier Molcan Makes Second Round for First Time

Like his opponent on Wednesday, Molcan spends the vast majority of his time on the ITF and Challenger tours, and only qualified for the main draw of a senior ATP event for the first time in January at the Antalya Open.

He made his second main draw appearance  in Marseille, and qualified here after winning two matches.

However, having lost in the first round of both those events, he benefitted from a favourable draw this time against the local wildcard Hamad Medjedovic, ranked 672 in the world.

The first set was dominated by serve with just one break point against it, which was forced and converted by Molcan in the seventh game.

He then broke the Serb in the opening game of the second set.

Medjedovic saved four more break points against his own server but could muster no threat of his own against the Slovak, and, when it came to his turn to serve to stay in the match, he was found wanting once more.

Krstin, Records First Tour Level Victory

Sunday was a red letter day for 26-year old Krstin, as it marked his first tour-level victory in his fourth appearance in an ATP main draw.

Given a wildcard in Belgrade, he made full use of local knowledge to defeat Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea, the world number 90, in three sets.

The Serb began well, breaking Kwon in his opening service game and then underpinning that with another break to take the first set.

His opponent hit back by breaking Krstin early in the second set. The Serb hit back immediately to level, but then dropped his serve again in the next game as the match went to a  decider.

However, Krstin regained control with another early break in the third set and from there, he was barely threatened. He forced another break and served out to claim the biggest victory of his career to date.

Molcan v Krstin Prediction and Tip

Neither name will be familiar to many tennis fans, with both men having won their maiden ATP matches with their first round successes.

That makes the match between the Slovak qualifier and the Serbian wildcard extremely hard to predict, but Krstin is playing at home and that may just give him the slight edge.
