Aljaz Bedene v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

This is a shockingly one-sided rivalry in favour of Bedene. Across all the competitions including Challengers, there have been seven matches played between these two players and Bedene has won every single time. Yep, 7-0 in favour of Bedene from 2015 where they first met at the Todi Challenger till 2019 where they faced off in Umag.

Six of these matches have come on clay.

Bedene Staves off Salvatore Challenge

It was a first round match that lasted nearly two hours but in the end, Bedene came through in straight sets against Salvatore Caruso.

Bedene won 6-4, 7-6 (8) with two breaks of serves in the entire match to his opponent’s one proving to be the difference.

The Slovenian player rocked the Salvatore boat early with a break of serve in the very first game and while his opponent levelled things up to get to 4-4, Bedene broke right back to take a decisive lead.

After an easy hold, Bedene faced five break-points in the second set but held on, before pulling it off in the tie-breaker after facing one set-point.

Bedene had earlier made it to the quarterfinal of the Lyon Open last week, following on from another quarterfinal appearance in Cagliari as well. Another last-eight appearance beckons.

Cecchinato Overcomes Fellow Italian

In what turned out to be bit of a scrap in the second set, Cecchinato required an hour and 42 minutes to come through against Raul Brancaccio in his opening round match.

A string of breaks in the first set gave Cecchinato the early advantage to help him go 4-1 up and while Brancaccio broke one more time in the seventh game, his higher-ranked opponent won the next two games to grab in the first set.

In the second set, Cecchinato saw off three break-points in his first service game but from then on held comfortably enough to take it into a tie-breaker. And while the tie-breaker continued to be a cagey affair, Cecchinato broke through Brancaccio’s defenses on his first match-point to claim the win.

Things could get very difficult all of a sudden given the mental block Cecchinato seems to have had against Bedene.

Bedene v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip

With a head to head like 7-0 in favour of Bedene it seems highly unlikely we will see a result of a different kind, especially given Cecchinato has had issues this season.
