Naomi Osaka v Patricia Maria Tig Head to Head

Their only previous outing came at the 2015 Hua Hin Open and Osaka had needed three sets to get past Maria Tig in that encounter.

Osaka Continues to Make Waves Off Court

The contrast in Osaka’s results on hard court surfaces and elsewhere is rather stark, and that’s why she starts off at the French Open at 14/1 odds to win the title, behind four players.

That, however, hasn’t stopped her from taking a stance for those suffering from mental health issues by stating she wouldn’t be talking to the press after her matches are over.

While some might joke it wouldn’t too many matches anyway for Osaka at the French Open given her horrible record on clay, it does put the spotlight back on the world number two. And Osaka relishes the spotlight, which could further spur her on to achieving the kind of result at the French Open which gives her the confidence for the rest of her career on this surface.

Because otherwise, for a player with four Grand Slam titles, to not have gotten to the second week at the French Open – or Wimbledon for that matter – is bit of a shame. It’s a record Osaka would like to correct but a 1-2 win-loss at Madrid and Rome this season points to a hard grind ahead.

Maria Tig Hasn’t Won Since Australia

26-year-old Maria Tig has floundered badly this season and won main draw matches in only one of the seven tournaments she has played in 2021.

That came at the Phillip Island Trophy where Maria Tig reached the third round but from there on, things have taken a drastic U-turn.

With a career-best ranking of just 56th under her belt, Maria Tig lost in the opening round in Doha, and then fell in back to back matches at the Rome Open and Belgrade Open in more recent times.

At Belgrade, she had started off a favourite against Mihaela Buzarnescu but Maria Tig suffered a three-set defeat at her hands.

And now while Osaka has had her issues on clay, it seems difficult to see how Maria Tig would turn up and win against the world number two given her own form.

Osaka v Maria Tig Prediction and Tip

Osaka’s results on clay notwithstanding, she should come away in straight sets in this one given her opponent is in bit of a struggle herself.

Tip: Osaka to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
