In-Form Barty Returns from Arm Injury

Barty had been out of action all of the post-pandemic season last year but it hasn’t looked like that this season. She has one of the best records of the year, and enters the French Open 2021 with three titles already under her belt.

And she will come into this tournament on a seven-match winning streak at Roland-Garros having won the title in 2019 but opting out last season.

This year, Barty started out with a title victory at the Yarra Valley Classic and then added another one to her kitty when she got past the likes of Victoria Azarenka, Aryna Sabalenka, Elina Svitolina and Bianca Andreescu to win the Miami Open.

On clay, a shock loss to Paula Badosa at Charleston proved to be an aberration as she raced off to a title win in Stuttgart and another final in Madrid where Sabalenka finally ended her nine-match streak.

And at the Rome Open, Barty looked to be on her way to another tournament victory when she was forced to retire from her quarterfinal against Cori Gauff after being a set up. She had suffered an arm injury there and will hope these two weeks have been enough to shrug off that problem.

Pera’s Had a Rough Start to Season

All that Pera has done this season is win five matches in the main draw of tournaments, while at the same time lose 11 matches. At five of the tournaments, she fell in the first round while losing in the qualifiers of the Adelaide International earlier this year.

In no competition that she has played in, Pera has come close to winning back to back matches, with a couple of three-set defeats in two second round matches being the best showing for her.

In fact, the last time Pera won two matches in a row in the main draw of competitions, it came at the New York Open of 2019, a little less than two years ago.

What that implies is playing against a player of the calibre of Barty will not be the easiest task on hand, despite having taken a set off Serena Williams last year and one off Garbine Muguruza this season.

Barty v Pera Prediction and Tip

Expecting an easy start for Barty, unless her injury issues haven’t yet resolved. A straight set win for the world number one looks like likely.

Tip: Barty to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
