Svitolina Hoping to Improve Clay Court Showing

While a semifinal at the Miami Open earlier this year makes for an excellent showing from Svitolina in 2021, she would have hoped to proceed through to the final of at least one of the tournaments she’s played this year. Unfortunately for her, that’s not been the case.

And on clay, Svitolina hasn’t won too much this year either.

The five-time WTA winner on clay court surfaces, Svitolina made the semifinal of the Stuttgart Open where she did win against Angelique Kerber and Petra Kvitova. Unfortunately for her, a three-set, fighting loss to Ash Barty ended her campaign, following which Svitolina fell in the first round at Madrid.

A better showing at Rome followed where Svitolina overcame Amanda Anisimova and Garbine Muguruza but yet again, a straight-set defeat to Iga Swiatek meant she was left with just a quarterfinal appearance under her belt.

Can she now better her performance on this surface this year and go deep into this competition?

Babel Makes Main Draw Debut

Having never played in a WTA tournament before this, the 17-year-old, 1105th-ranked French wildcard will hope to put up a brave front against her much fancied opponent.

What Babel would love to deliver is a fearless brand of tennis in a situation she knows she has very little to lose.

Babel has had an interesting start to tennis, having decided to pursue the sport because she loved it on a video game. A few years on, Babel reached the juniors singles quarterfinal, and a year from there on, she will be featuring in the main draw of her home Grand Slam.

What’s interesting to note is Babel has played in four ITF competitions this season and won just one match. And now she will be making a big transition on to the big stage.

Svitolina v Babel Prediction and Tip

Svitolina wouldn’t have expected a better and easier first round opponent than someone who isn’t even in the top 1000. A straight-set win, with a games handicap of +5.5 can be expected here. Can expect a bagel against Babel too.

Tip: Svitolina to win in straight sets: 1/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
