Diego Schwartzman v Lu Yen-hsun Head to Head

Schwartzman has a surprisingly losing record against the Taiwanese. Lu Yen-hsun won the pair’s only meeting before this in the Round of 16 at Winston-Salem in 2016.

Can Schwartzman Repeat Last Year’s Exploits?

Diego Schwartzman is a lowly 7-6 for the season on clay and defends semifinal points from last year’s edition of the French Open.

The diminutive Argentine made waves last year when he made the final of the Italian Open and upset Dominic Thiem in Paris en route to his first Grand Slam semifinal. Unfortunately for him, Djokovic and Nadal proved to be immovable objects in his quest for the ultimate prize.

This year, however, Schwartzman has looked a shadow of the player that performed with distinction on the European clay swing less than eight months ago.

Outside a quarterfinal in Barcelona, the 28-year-old did not win a match in four other claycourt tournaments in Europe. He arrives at Roland Garros on a four-match losing streak and won just two sets.

Lu Uses Protected Ranking

With a current ranking of World No. 679, Lu Yen-hsun continues to use his protected ranking status to play main draw matches at tour level. The Taiwanese was sidelined for a considerable period of time in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

So far in 2021, he has been limited to just three, short appearances. He lost back-to-back matches Down Under, at the Great Ocean Road Open and then Australian Open.

But the 37-year-old veteran picked up his first match win in almost three years by defeating American Sam Querrey in the first round of the Miami Masters. He hasn’t played since losing to Daniil Medvedev in the subsequent round.

Rendy Lu as he is commonly known by his peers and fans, will play in the main draw of French Open for the 11th time. However the clay Slam is one of his worst in terms of return and results. He has made it past the first round only twice in that period.

Schwartzman vs Lu Prediction and Tip

Schwartzman starts as a clear favorite, and this is quite possibly the easiest match he will play all year. The Argentine should confirm his progress with a comfortable win.

Tip: Schwartzman to win and Under 26.5 games in the match: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
