Milos Raonic v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head

Raonic Makes Surprise Return

Milos Raonic hasn’t played since end of March, and has missed the French Open in each of the last three seasons due to a series of injuries, but will make a surprise return this fortnight.

There has been no word lately from the Canadian’s camp, nor the man himself, but the indication is that Raonic is putting his eggs in one basket for the grass-court season, akin to what Roger Federer is doing.

Expectations will be low despite Raonic’s decent record at Roland Garros down the years. He is a former quarterfinalist and has made two more appearances in the second week of the clay Slam. But the major objective for this year will be to get match practice, and the big-serving machine will most likely not last the entire week.

Raonic’s last preparations for one clay-court tournament will happen on the practice courts, and he is slated to play on Monday/ Tuesday.

Monteiro Ends Main Draw Drought in Belgrade

Thiago Monteiro had gone over two months without a tour-level win, but he is off the skid after beating Radu Albot in a first-round match in Belgrade a week ago. Before that, he either lost in the first round or failed to qualify for the events in between Buenos Aires and Belgrade.

Monteiro’s ranking of World No.79 is sufficient enough to warrant a main draw spot in a Grand Slam. And with the burden of playing of qualifying lifted (which was not the case at Masters 1000 level), he could have loads of energy to put on his best showing on the big stage.

The Brazilian lefty may be in awful form, but he reached the third round of the French Open last year, upsetting Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round and then beat Marcos Giron.

With Raonic out of sorts, Monteiro could fancy his chances of making a similar re-introduction.

Raonic v Monteiro Prediction and Tip

Monteiro’s odds are dropping fast. Raonic hasn’t played since March, likely due to the injury he picked up after the Australian Open. It is clear he is eyeing up for a deeper run at Wimbledon. This match could have an upset written over it.

Tip: Monteiro to win: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
