Tsitsipas Clinincal In Opener

22-year-old Stefanos Tsitipas has had a strong season thus far.  Starting the year with consecutive wins at the ATP Cup and a semi-final showing at the Aussie Open (defeating Rafa Nadal en route), Tsitsipas continued his strong run despite missing out on titles, notably at the ATP 500 final at Acupulco against Alexander Zverev.

The Greek’s strong run continued on clay where he won his first ever Masters 1000 at Monte Carlo as well as winning the ATP 250 in Lyon and being one point away from clinching the Barcelona ATP 500 final against Rafael Nadal.

Tsitsipas came to the French Open as third in line among favorites for the title behind Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic and was up against French veteran Jeremy Chardy in the opening round.

The fifth seed played a tight opening set and saved a couple set points but eventually claimed the set in a tiebreak. Tsitsipas upped the level hereon and played with increasing confidence thereafter.

The second set saw an early break as the Greek won the set 6-3 and then ran away with the deciding set 6-1 to claim a place in the second round here at Roland Garros.

Impressive Opening Round Win For Martinez

Young Spaniard Pedro Martinez made the third round of the last two majors, i.e Aussie Open 2021 and the French Open delayed edition in October of last year.

Ranked number 100 in the world, it has not been the best of clay build-up for Martinez coming into this year’s French Open as he started as an underdog against rising American Sebastian Korda, who won his first ever ATP title at Parma this weekend.

However, Korda looked flat for large portions of the match and also received treatment during the match for a niggle or two. Martinez looked comfortable on the clay and continued to put pressure on the American as he prevailed 6-4, 6-2,6-2 for a straight sets win.

Korda was never able to get any rhythm in the match and one wonders if some of that was understandably attributable to the quick turnaround after the win this weekend at Parma.

Tsitsipas v Martinez Prediction and Tip

Although Martinez will be confident after his convincing win against Seb Korda, Tsitsipas has been in very good touch of late and will start as a huge favorite here.

Expect Tsitipas to continue his good run and prevail in straight sets.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
