Elina Svitolina v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

This will be the first time that the World No. 6 Svitolina will face World No. 33 Krejcikova.

No Sweat for Svitolina against Li

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina knocked out America’s Ann Li in the second round of the French Open on Thursday to move into the Round of 32 for the seventh time at Roland Garros in her ninth appearance.

The fifth seed, who had begun her campaign on Tuesday with a straight sets win over France’s 17-year-old Oceane Babel, needed an hour and 14 minutes to dispatch Li 6-0, 6-4 on Thursday.

In a match that had a similar feel to her first round performance, the Ukrainian dominated the first set but found herself in trouble in the second before fighting back to win in straight sets.

In both the matches, Svitolina had taken the first set with ease, but had fallen 1-4 behind in the second set after being broken in the second game. But on both the occasions she used her experience to get the break back and then eventually seal the contest. Svitolina had beaten Babel 6-2, 7-5, making 21 winners and 28 unforced errors.

Against Li, the World No. 6 struck 19 winners and made just 20 unforced errors.

A three-time quarterfinalist at French Open, Svitolina improved to 21-9 this year. The former World No. 3, who has 15 titles on the tour, is yet to reach a final this year, having lost in the semifinals in Miami and Stuttgart and the quarterfinals at the Abu Dhabi Open, Gippsland Trophy, Qatar Open and the Italian Open.

A two-time major semifinalist, Svitolina lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open to Jessica Pegula.

Krejcikova Eases Past Alexandrova

Facing Svitolina in the third round will be Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova, who needed just 68 minutes to down Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round on Thursday.

Making just 19 unforced errors against Alexandrova’s 29 and converting 4 of 7 break points in the match, Krejcikova took the second round contest 6-2, 6-3.

On Tuesday, the World No. 33 had to fight back after losing the first set to win her first round match against fellow Czech player Kristyna Pliskova. Krejcikova won that contest 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and nine minutes.

Just like Svitolina, the 25-year-old Krejcikova also improved to 21-9 in 2021. She had captured her maiden WTA title in Strasbourg by defeating Romania’s Sorana Cirstea, a day before the start of the French Open.

The Czech had also reached the final in Dubai earlier this year, but a first WTA 1000 title remained elusive as she went down to Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in straight sets.

The 2018 French Open doubles champion, Krejcikova is making her third singles main draw appearance at Roland Garros. She had reached the fourth round last year before going down to Nadia Podoroska.

Svitolina v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

The experienced Svitolina will be the favourite to win the contest, but she should by ready for a tough contest as Krejcikova is in solid form. Expect this contest to go the distance.
