Serena Goes Past Collins

While Serena was stretched to a three-setter in her previous round, there was no such repeat in the third as she stormed past fellow American Danielle Collins to seal her fourth round place at French Open this season.

Serena won 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 26 minutes to seal her place in the fourth round for the 13th time at this competition.

The first set went to serve till the sixth game before Serena took control with a break of serve in the seventh. A couple of holds later, she was through with the opening set.

The second set proved to be a lot more difficult for Serena, who had defeated Irina Begu and Mihaela Buzarnescu previously, as she was broken back two times after having taken a break of serve to begin the set.

Down 1-4, however, Serena fought back to win the next five games in a row and seal her place in the round of 16 where she takes on a first-timer.

Rybakina Showing Signs of Resurrection

After the kind of previous two seasons that Rybakina had, this has been a very disappointing year. At least it was till before the start of this year’s French Open.

Because by defeating Elena Vesnina in straight sets in the third round, Rybakina has not just made it through to her best showing at Roland Garros but also at any Grand Slam. Her previous best had been a third round appearance at Australian Open last year.

Rybakina, who had dropped just nine games over the first two rounds of this competition against Elsa Jacquemot and Nao Hibino, wasted no time in defeating Vesnina too. In a match lasting an hour and five minutes, Rybakina came through 6-1, 6-4 as she broke her opponent four times of the nine opportunities she had.

She smashed 12 aces and 26 winners in her victory, outgunning Vesnina’s one plus nine combo.

Serena will prove to be a different kind of a challenge obviously but Rybakina looks to have gotten herself into the right kind of mindset for starters.

Williams v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

It’s tough to look beyond Serena to win this but then again don’t count Rybakina out from the contest; backing her to win a set in this one.
