World number one and 2016 French Open champion Novak Djokovic is in search of a second Roland Garros win and a 19th major over the next fortnight.

Djokovic started the season well, being undefeated at the ATP Cup and registering a ninth Aussie Open title at the start of the season. An abdominal tear saw him out for the rest of the hard court and indoor season, returning only for the clay swing at Monte Carlo.

It was a mixed clay court season for the Serb building up to the French Open, with early losses at Monte Carlo and Belgrade-1 and then a final run at Rome before losing out to arch rival Rafa Nadal. Djokovic played at his home tournament Belgrade-2 last week and added another title to his cap and came in to Roland Garros high on confidence.

Djokovic is in the same half of the draw as Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer and has stressed on how important a crucial start to the first week is. He has followed that mantra to the ‘T’ as he has been in clinical touch this week.

Up first against American Tennys Sandgren, Djokovic was in flawless form with his serve, return and groundstrokes. He continued the form in the next round against clay court veteran Pablo Cuevas not giving him much of an opportunity to get going and wrapping up another straight sets win.

Ricardas Bernakis in the round of 32 was never going to pose much of a challenge to the focussed Serb and he did not as Djokovic dropped only six games in another vintage performance and secured a spot again in the round of 16 with his sight on the title and on Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer’s records.

Musetti In Week Two of Maiden Major

19-year old Italian Lorenzo Musetti sprung on the circuit at the 2020 Italian Open and continues to impress. A good run last year in Rome was followed by an even better one this March at Acupulco.

Musetti had a mixed run on clay earlier this Spring but impressed with a semi-final showing at Lyon just before the French Open.

In his first ever main draw at a major, Musetti defeated former top 10 and 13th seed now David Goffin of Belgium in straight sets. He continued the run in straight sets against Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the next round.

His third round was the true test of grit and resilience against compatriot Marco Cecchinato, and the teenager did not disappoint. A seesaw five setter ended with Musetti winning 6-3 in the fifth and making it to a match-up with Novak Djokovic in week two of his first ever Grand Slam.

Djokovic v Musetti Prediction and Tip

Musetti has been a rising talent for the last year and has continued that form this week at his first ever major. However, he is up against none other than Novak Djokovic in the round of 16 at a major.

The young Italian has exhibited enough self-belief and confidence to take a set off even Djokovic, but no more than that.

Expect Djokovic to win in four sets.
