Davis on a Three-Match Losing Streak

American Lauren Davis comes to Nottingham with a 6-10 record in 2021 and 8-10, including her two qualifying round wins in Guadalajara.

The 27-year-old right-hander, who reached the third round at Wimbledon in 2014 and 2019, is on a three-match losing streak and will hope to end the skid in the second round in Nottingham on Wednesday. Seeded 14th in the tournament, Davis had received a bye in the first round.

Davis’s last win came at the WTA 250 in Charleston, where she defeated Coco Vandeweghe in the first round. She, however, lost to Danka Kovinic in the second round and then made first-round exits from Strasbourg and Roland Garros after defeats to Ekaterina Alexandrova and Paula Badosa respectively.

Having made a 0-3 start to the season, which included a first-round defeat to Belinda Bencic at the Australian Open, the World No. 86 Davis finally got some momentum going in Guadalajara, winning four in a row, including two qualifiers, before falling in the quarterfinals to Italian qualifier Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Davis’s biggest win this year came against Sofia Kenin in the Round of 32 at the Volvo Car Open, when she rallied from a set down to beat the World No. 4. She had begun the WTA 500 event in Charleston with a win against Madison Brengle, however, was denied a place in the last eight by Cori Gauff.

The 2017 Auckland champion, had featured in just one quarterfinal last year and struggled for most parts of the season. She will be looking to get into a rhythm on Wednesday and then build from there.

Dart Downs Raducanu

Facing Davis in the second round will be Harriett Dart of Britain, who defeated compatriot Emma Raducanu in the first round on Monday.

Breaking her opponent seven times in the match and saving two of six break points, Dart eliminated the 18-year-old with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

The 24-year-old, who failed to qualify for the main draw at Roland Garros after losing the final qualifying round to Liang en-shuo, improved to 2-3 in main draws this year and 13-11 overall, across competitions.

Dart had reached the third round at Wimbledon in 2019 by beating Christina McHale in the first round and Brazilian qualifier Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second round before being outplayed by Ash Barty in the Round of 32.

A winner of four singles and 14 doubles titles at the ITF level, Dart has a career-high ranking of 121 and will be hoping to carry her first-round form to the next round, but will have to punch above her weight if she wants to advance to the Round of 16.

Davis v Dart Prediction and Tip

Davis will see this as an opportunity to break her losing streak and progress in the tournament. She has beaten quality opponents this year and will be a favourite in this contest.
