Diyas Has Twice Reached Fourth Round at Wimbledon

Diyas is that rarity, a Kazakhstan plyer who was actually born in the country.

She has been ranked as high as 31 in the world, but that was six years ago, that ranking sandwiching two successive appearances in the fourth round at Wimbledon, her best ever showing in a Grand Slam event.

She has been in two WTA finals, both in Japan, losing to Samantha Stosur in 2014 and beating Miyu Kato three years later.

Earlier this year, she reached the third round of the Australian Open, before losing to Garbine Muguruza, but has struggled for form since then, and had a disappointing clay court season.

She was last in action at the French Open where she beat Heather Watson in the first round before losing to Elise Mertens, the world number 15, but not before taking the first set.

Cabrera Battles Through to Second Round

Cabrera has a career high singles ranking of 115, achieved just before lockdown last year, and enjoyed her maiden WTA tour win at the Hobart International in 2017.

She spends most of her time on the junior tours where she has won five singles and  3 doubles titles, primarily on hard courts, but she has appeared twice at the Australian Open and at the US Open as well, having been given wildcards on each occasion.

Although not known as a  grass court player, she did reach the quarter-fianl of the Manchester Trophy two years ago, losing to the eventual winner, Magda Linette of Poland.

In the first round in Nottingham, she was drawn against the world 110, Yafan Wang of China,  and battled through to face Diyas. Cabrera began badly, losing her opening service game, but broke back and then broke again, clinching the set with her third set point.

The first six games of the second set went against serve, until the pair settled down, and it eventually went to a tie break,

Cabrera dropped three of her opening service points, but it took three spurned opportunities before Wang was finally able to put her away to level the match.

Midway through the third set, Cabrera had to save three break points and that proved to be a turning point as she broke Wang again next game,  One more break of serve put the result beyond doubt.

Diyas v Cabrera Prediction and Tip

Although it was some time ago, Diyas has twice been to the fourth round at Wimbledon, which means she knows how to play on grass. That experience should help her beat the Australian easily.
