Viktorija Golubic v Alison Van Uytvanck Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Golubic off to a Good Start on Grass

Enjoying a bye into the second round, Viktorija Golubic started her grass season against the American Kristie Ahn. It was a pretty short game – the Swiss won the first set 6-1 after which, Ahn retired from the match, thus giving Golubic a walkover into the second round.

After a fairly decent performance on the clay swing, the 28-year-old will be hoping to emulate something similar on the grass courts too. Golubic won the WTA 125K Series event in Saint-Malo and followed it with a semifinal run in ITF Saint-Gaudens. However, in the WTA Parma and French Open, she was beaten right in the first round.

It has certainly been a breakthrough year for Golubic, who started the season outside the top 130 and now, she is ranked #72 on the tour. Earlier in the season, she reached the final as a qualifier in the Lyon Open and Monterrey Open, losing respectively to Clara Tauson and Leylah Annie Fernandez.

Uytvanck Storms Past Melnikova

In what is undoubtedly one of her most clinical wins of the season, Alison Van Uytvanck defeated her opening-round opponent Marina Melnikova 6-1, 6-1 to set up the clash with Golubic. It was a relatively short game, lasting just an hour.

With that win, Uytvanck has snapped her 5-match losing streak on the tour. She went through the entire clay swing without winning a single match, including the last week’s French Open. The last time she made it this far on the tour was in the Lyon Open 2020, where she made it to the semifinal. Since then, the Belgian has fallen mainly in the opening rounds or the qualifiers.

On the doubles circuit, however, the Belgian did Serbia Open women’s final with Greet Minnen which the duo ultimately lost to the pairing of Nina Stojanovic and Aleksandra Krunic.

Purely in terms of trophies and overall performance on the WTA Tour, Alison Van Uytvanck has won four singles titles in comparison to Golubic’s one.

Uytvanck v Golubic Prediction and Tip

Golubic will more than fancy her chances here of winning against an adversary who has not had the best of the seasons so far. That said, it may very well prove to be a three-setter, given that both players are well-seasoned.
