Alex de Minaur v Jordan Thompson Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these players and De Minaur has won two of these matches. Incidentally, Thompson’s only win over his fellow countryman came on the grass court of Hertogenbosch in 2019.

It’s been a middling season for De Minaur so far with the Aussie having found it difficult to find himself a breakthrough performance.
This is not to forget De Minaur having kick-started the year with a title at Antalya, defeating the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili, David Goffin and Alexander Bublik to carve out the win.
Since then, however, De Minaur made it to third round at Australian Open and had another third round appearance in Madrid but other than that just fell away rather quickly in most tournaments.
De Minaur has done decently on grass though. After struggling to qualify even on the Challenger circuit on grass in 2017, he came back strongly the following year with a final under his belt at Surbiton and a title at Nottingham Challenger. A third round at Wimbledon followed soon after, making it his best performance on the surface.
He shouldn’t have a lot of worries against a struggling countryman here.

Thompson Registers Rare Win
He was on a five-match losing streak and yet Thompson had come into his opening round match against Guido Pella as an overwhelming favourite. It was to do with Pella’s struggles with the Argentine having won just three matches all seasons spread across nine tournaments before this.
And Thompson lived up to the favourites tag as he carved out a 6-3, 6-4 win in an hour and 16 minutes to make the second round.
An early break in the opening set is all that Thompson needed to clinch the opening set despite missing a set-point on his opponent’s serve in the eighth game. And in the second, while Thompson lost his own serve to concede a 1-4 lead, he came storming back to register five games in a row to finish off the encounter.
This was just Thompson’s eighth career win on grass to go with his 13 defeats. And against a player who has performed better all season, he will have his issues.
de Minaur v Thompson Prediction and Tip
This should be an easy one for de Minaur despite his middling form. More so because of his own grass court performances and the struggles of his opponent. Straight-set win expected.
