Daria Kasatkina v Polona Hercog Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came earlier this year at the Gippsland Trophy in Melbourne where Kasatkina won their second round match on that hard court surface.

Kasatkina’s Last Win on Grass Her Grand Slam Best

In 2019, Kasatkina had featured in two matches on grass spread across two different tournaments and lost both. Those results had come as a surprise because the Russian was coming into the season on the back of her best Grand Slam performance.

It had happened at Wimbledon the previous season where Kasatkina had stormed into the last eight before going down to Angelique Kerber, the eventual title winner.

2019 proved to be one of her worst seasons in recent memories but there were signs of Kasatkina coming back in 2020 with some middling performances. This year, she has taken the world by storm yet again with two titles under her belt already.

She first one at the Phillip Island Trophy and then doubled her count at home at the St. Petersburg Open before reaching the third round at French Open. What Kasatkina will now look to do is start off strongly on grass in the lead-up to Wimbledon and she faces a tricky opponent first up.

Hercog Resurgent on Clay

After winning just one of her first five matches on hard court surfaces this season – and those four defeats included one to Kasatkina too – Hercog’s performances have gradually improved with the advent of clay.

The Slovenian player won an ITF title to get her clay swing for the year going, and while she lost in her opening rounds at the next four competitions on clay, she did have a solid French Open campaign.

Hercog started off with a three-set defeat of Kiki Bertens before sending Caroline Garcia away in the second. She went down to Marketa Vondrousova in the third round.

What about grass though? Hercog last featured on the greens in 2019 and made it to the third round at Wimbledon. Earlier, as a qualifier she had done the same at Eastbourne as well, losing to Simona Halep in the end.

Hercog’s has had consistency problems but if she can turn up, she could give Kasatkina a run for her money.

Kasatkina v Hercog Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina a favourite but let’s not forget the switch from clay to grass isn’t the easiest and we could be looking at a fighting showing from Hercog too. Three-setter expected for us.
